A Technical Sales Specialist sits at the intersection of technical assessment, customer solutioning, proposal development, and commercial support. The role supports Sales, Commercial Development and Program/Project Management in securing new business by translating customer requests into executable technical and commercial proposals.

The Technical Sales Specialist is responsible for assessing new customer opportunities from a technical perspective and converting customer needs into clear, feasible and competitive proposals. The role acts as a customer-facing technical partner to Sales and Commercial Development, ensuring that proposed solutions are technically sound, commercially aligned and effectively handed over to Operations and Program Management.

What you will do:

Customer Relationship

  • Build & establish strong customer services relationships.

  • Act as a consultant to help customers select the best possible services for their needs.

  • Manage customer interactions - chairs customer meetings (calls & F2F), present slide decks etc.

  • Understand regulatory requirements governing new drug development and manufacturing.

  • Demonstrate understanding of Lonza's offerings, site capabilities, products and work packages, including ability to tailor as required.

Product knowledge & Proposal Building

  • Proactively lead and manage customer project strategies and work closely with cross functional teams; Sales,global sites and Commercial Development.

  • Translate customer needs (RFI or RFP) into a project scope, timelines, costs (inc. CAPEX), quotations and pricing.

  • Maintain the content of the proposal knowledge management center including the upkeep of generic work stages, costs, timelines, presentations and other required content.

  • Understand other related technology fields (e.g. drug product).

  • Understand the configuration of CPQ quotes (to the required quality and on time).

  • Articulate the demands of an opportunity and confirm supply solutions through the Demand/Supply Team. Escalates through appropriate channels when required.

  • Ensure effective handover to Operations and Program Manager functions.

Systems & Processes

  • A good level of understanding of tools and techniques used by other functions (e.g. PlanView, Demand/Supply etc).

  • Ability to manage multiple activities in parallel and within a fast paced, pressured environment.

  • Generate and maintain department metrics (e.g. Proposal log).

  • Ability to chair both internal and external (i.e. third party) meetings professionally and efficiently.

  • Effectively works with Site / Global Leadership teams and Project Teams to escalate & direct programs.

Leadership & Influencing

  • Manage the implementation/execution of improvements to Proposal systems / processes and tools (both at department / global levels.

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline.

  • Proven track record in scientific program or project management, including cross-functional and multi-national team collaboration.

  • Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to negotiate, problem-solve, and deliver creative, commercial solutions in a high-pressure environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; highly proficient in project management software (MS Project) and standard business applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, databases).
