Mark Thomas is hiring a Transportation Planning Intern to join the team! The Transportation Planning Intern performs entry-level planning duties to include research, writing, and other planning-related administrative duties. The Transportation Planning Intern provides general support and assistance to the Planning group and applies practical aspects of their formal education. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assists Planners with routine or daily tasks; provides support for larger efforts as assigned
  • Conducts routine studies and analysis of assigned planning projects and community programs as assigned
  • Prepares planning related research and analysis on infrastructure solutions to address travel safety
  • Evaluates non-infrastructure solutions (education, enforcement, evaluation, encouragement, equity) to address specific community needs
  • Considers bicycle and pedestrian solutions for implementation
  • Summarizes constraints and opportunities, crash analysis, and recommendations into technical memorandums and reports
  • Assists in the development of planning documents including active transportation plans, safety plans, corridor plans, feasibility studies, alternatives analysis, etc.
  • Organizes and maintains project data and files, including hard copies and electronic files
  • Provides general planning support to include data collection, organize documentation, and other assigned administrative duties
  • Visits project sites for collection of photographs and review of field conditions
  • Meets deadlines in a timely manner as determined by supervisor
  • Participates in training activities and actively seek opportunities to contribute to the achievement of Mark Thomas goals.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Planning/Urban Studies, Landscape Architecture, or Engineering field
  • Relevant work or volunteer experience a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Entry-level practical understanding of GIS, Adobe Creative Suite software preferred
  • Ability to work & interact successfully in a team environment
