What is a senior planning professional?

Senior Planning professionals are experienced individuals responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing strategic plans within an organization or government body. They analyze data, anticipate future needs, and create frameworks to guide projects, resources, or community development. Their role often involves collaborating with stakeholders, leading teams, and ensuring that all planning aligns with the organization’s long-term goals. Senior Planning professionals typically have extensive experience in their field and strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior planner?

To thrive as a Senior Planner, you need expertise in urban or regional planning, data analysis, and project management, typically supported by a relevant degree and several years of planning experience. Familiarity with GIS software, planning regulations, and sometimes certification (such as AICP) is often required. Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills help facilitate stakeholder engagement and guide teams through complex projects. These abilities are crucial for creating effective, sustainable plans and ensuring successful project implementation within regulatory and community frameworks.

How does a senior planning professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive project success?

Senior Planning professionals regularly work alongside project managers, engineers, procurement, and finance teams to ensure project milestones are met on schedule and within budget. They facilitate communication between departments, coordinate schedules, and proactively identify potential bottlenecks or risks. By leading planning meetings and developing detailed timelines, they help align team efforts and resolve conflicts, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and project objectives are achieved efficiently.

The Business Strategy & Planning team connects strategy, planning, operations and governance to create clearer priorities, stronger execution and better decision-making across our Global Partner Development & Relations organization that supports the wider business.

Join us as a Senior Planning & Portfolio Manager leading a portfolio of strategic and operational programs that support the delivery of annual business goals. Partnering with leaders across the division, marketing, operations, finance and analytics, the role translates business priorities into executable plans, brings structure to complex projects and builds repeatable operating mechanisms that help the business deliver and scale.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the planning and delivery of strategic and operational programs, from agreed priority through delivery and post-mortem
  • Build practical program plans, operating cadences and governance mechanisms that translate agreed priorities into coordinated execution and measurable outcomes
  • Monitor program performance, risks and dependencies, intervening when delivery falls behind and driving the actions needed to restore momentum
  • Ensure assigned programs operate within established governance, reporting and financial oversight requirements
  • Build and improve scalable planning, governance and operational processes that strengthen how cross-functional programs are executed
  • Provide decision-ready executive updates that surface progress, risks and trade-offs, supporting timely prioritization and decisions

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years of experience in program management, portfolio planning, business operations or a related discipline within platform, product, planning or comparable environments
  • A track record of leading complex cross-functional initiatives from strategy through execution
  • Strong business judgement and the ability to connect program delivery to business goals, operational priorities and measurable outcomes
  • Ability to translate strategic objectives into clear priorities, roadmaps, milestones and practical execution plans
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with experience using dashboards, reporting tools and delivery metrics and a disciplined approach to managing risks, dependencies, decisions and actions
  • Excellent stakeholder-management and communication skills, with experience influencing senior leaders and working across globally distributed teams
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment, manage competing priorities and deliver results with a high degree of ownership

Preferred experience

  • Experience in gaming, platforms, media, publishing, partner operations or similar business environments
  • Experience working within established portfolio-governance, program-reporting or financial-oversight processes
  • Experience leading complex programs in ambiguous environments, working with senior stakeholdersÂ
