The role - what you'll do

Barr is seeking an electrical technician/designer to join our team. In this hybrid role, you will support our engineering group on the detailed electrical design of various industrial systems. Project responsibilities include drafting and design using CADD software, creating electrical drawings, and designing power distribution systems and controls for industrial facilities. You'll collaborate with engineers and other designers, incorporating electrical information into drawings from other disciplines. Field visits to client sites, such as industrial processing facilities and power plants, may be required, with appropriate safety training provided.
A successful person in this role is flexible, collaborative, and demonstrates strong initiative. The ideal candidate enjoys working both independently and as part of a team, communicates effectively, and adapts to changing schedules to meet deadlines and client needs.

Your impact - key responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge: use AutoCAD electrical and other CADD software to create detailed electrical drawings for power distribution systems and controls for new and existing industrial facilities.

  • Interpersonal savvy: effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships.

About the opportunity

  • Hybrid: this position is based out of either Barr's Minneapolis, Duluth, or Hibbing, Minnesota; Bismarck, North Dakota; Salt Lake City, Utah; or Fort Collins or Wheat Ridge, Colorado, offices. A hybrid work arrangement may be considered, allowing time split between the office and a home office.

  • Travel expectation: occasional field visits to client sites; travel percentage will vary by project.

  • Work environment: ability to work in industrial facilities, including locations with rough terrain, moving machinery, and other typical conditions. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

About you - required core competencies

  • Education: two-year technical certificate or equivalent experience/coursework directly related to electrical design.

  • Software: proficiency with current versions of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software.

  • Driver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Helpful additional experience (not required)

  • 1-3 years of experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to the job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering or industrial organization.

Compensation: anticipated range of $23.00-$30.00/hour. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as non-exempt (hourly) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
