Job description

Foundry Equipment Design EngineerPosition Summary

We are seeking a Foundry Equipment Design Engineer to design, develop, and improve equipment used in foundry operations. This position is responsible for creating custom material handling systems, sand processing equipment, conveyor systems, casting support equipment, and other foundry-related machinery. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical design, industrial equipment manufacturing, and an understanding of foundry processes, including green sand systems.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Design and develop foundry equipment and systems from concept through manufacturing and installation.
  • Create detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of material.
  • Design conveyor systems, sand handling equipment, screening and sizing systems, bucket elevators, hoppers, and related machinery.
  • Perform engineering calculations for capacity, throughput, horsepower requirements, structural integrity, and equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with customers to determine project requirements and develop effective solutions.
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
  • Review and approve shop drawings and fabrication details.
  • Provide technical support during equipment installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Evaluate existing equipment and recommend improvements for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable safety standards and industry regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience designing industrial equipment; foundry equipment experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with conveyor systems, bulk material handling, and process equipment.
  • Knowledge of green sand foundry operations, sand reclamation systems, screening equipment, and material handling systems is highly desirable.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations related to loads, horsepower, flow rates, and equipment sizing.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work directly with customers and production teams.
