NICU = Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

These are nurses who care for:

  • premature babies,
  • critically ill newborns,
  • babies needing intensive monitoring/treatment after birth.ย 

So a NICU RN is a specialized neonatal nurse โ€” not a regular RN.

Typical experience includes:

  • ventilators for newborns,
  • neonatal emergencies,
  • incubators, ย 
  • feeding tubes,
  • neonatal critical care.

Mandatory Requirements:
โ€ข Active California RN License
โ€ข Minimum 2 years of NICU specialty experience
โ€ข Recent NICU experience within the past 3 months
โ€ข Cerner AND Epic experience required
โ€ข Minimum 6 months of Epic experience within the last 12 months
โ€ข Must be proficient in both EMR systems

Required Certifications:
โ€ข BLS
โ€ข Advanced NRP(Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
