What Does an E-Learning Designer Do?

As an e-learning designer, your main duties are to determine the needs of your student population and design an effective structure for the presentation of a course. You collaborate with the instructor to choose appropriate materials for the class, determine the course goals and objectives, and build the curriculum and method of presentation. Your responsibilities also include serving as a liaison between different collaborators, such as the instructor, subject matter experts, students, administrators, and the tech department.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the E Learning Designer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an E Learning Designer, you need solid instructional design expertise, experience with adult learning theory, and typically a degree in education, instructional design, or a related field. Familiarity with authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, and Learning Management Systems (LMS) is often required, and professional certifications like Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP) can be advantageous. Creativity, collaboration, and strong communication skills help E Learning Designers effectively translate content and work with subject matter experts.
