Job description

Part-Time Learning Experience Designer (LXD)

St. Ambrose University is seeking to hire two part-time Learning Experience Designers (LXDs) who wil partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop and implement high-quality learning experiences grounded in scholarship and best practices in teaching and learning across all modalities. This role supports faculty in course design, instructional strategy, and effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS), while contributing to student success and programmatic assessment initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support to SMEs in integrating innovative teaching strategies and technologies to enhance student learning.
  • Review courses at various stages of development to ensure alignment with curriculum and program outcomes, accreditation standards, copyright and federal compliance requirements, and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with the Learning Team to design and deliver orientations, trainings, and workshops informed by research and university data (as requested and appropriate).
  • Develop job aids, exemplars, and resources to support effective course design.
  • Strengthen instructors' ability to effectively utilize the University's LMS across campuses and modalities.
  • Conduct course reviews and analysis to support continuous improvement and assessment processes.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of two years of experience in teaching and learning, curriculum development, or instructional design

Preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience with online learning environments

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex content into engaging, accessible learning materials.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design models, and human-centered design.
  • Experience with D2L Brightspace (or ability to quickly become proficient).
  • Familiarity with Quality Matters standards.
  • Experience with authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate.
  • Strong visual design and multimedia skills (e.g., Canva, Camtasia, Illustrator).
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
