Job Description

The BIM Designer models complex electrical systems for mission-critical projects using Revit and related tools, producing accurate and constructible shop drawings for field installation. This role sets up Revit views and sheets, coordinates with other trades in 3D, and collaborates closely with a remote team of modelers while working on-site. The position suits a detail-oriented professional who enjoys technical modeling, electrical design documentation, and contributing to high-tech and data center projects.

Responsibilities

  • Model electrical systems in Revit based on markup drawings and verbal direction provided by electrical detailers.
  • Set up Revit views, sheets, browser structure, schedules, filters, and other Revit elements in preparation for shop drawings.
  • Build 3D electrical models independently and support 3D coordination with other trades.
  • Annotate and dimension shop drawings to clearly communicate design intent for field installation.
  • Utilize Bluebeam Revu software to markup PDF drawings and communicate design changes and clarifications with team members.
  • Prepare copies and assemble sets of documents for transmittal to project stakeholders.
  • Download and organize drawings and project information from web-based platforms such as SharePoint, FTP sites, BIM360, and other project websites.
  • Check all completed work for accuracy and completeness before passing it on to others.
  • Collaborate closely with a larger remote VDC/modeling team to ensure consistent standards and coordinated deliverables.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical symbols, standards, and design practices to ensure models and drawings meet project requirements.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a BIM Designer.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience modeling electrical systems.
  • High proficiency in Revit (approximately 8/10), including the ability to manipulate families, views, browser structure, sheets, schedules, filters, and similar functions.
  • Ability to independently build accurate and detailed 3D models in Revit.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu (approximately 7/10) for PDF markup and collaboration.
  • Experience working on mission-critical projects such as data centers, high-tech facilities, or semiconductor projects.
  • Experience as or with an electrical designer and a strong understanding of electrical symbols and standards.
  • Experience with BIM and construction workflows, including 3D coordination with other trades.
  • Ability to follow markups and verbal direction from electrical detailers and translate them into precise BIM models and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to checking one’s own work for accuracy.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Drafting and Design or a closely related field is preferred.
  • Experience working on data center and other mission-critical environments.
  • Comfort using web-based collaboration and file-sharing platforms such as SharePoint, FTP sites, and BIM360.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with remote team members.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple drawings, models, and document sets.
  • Interest in continuing to develop Revit, BIM, and electrical design expertise.
  • Access to a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Eligibility for company-paid term life insurance and AD&D coverage.
  • Participation in a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match and company contribution, subject to plan terms.
  • Paid time off accrual of up to 120 hours in a full year, subject to plan terms, plus 7 company-paid holidays.
