OVERVIEW: The Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University is a federally funded center with exemplary elementary and secondary education programs for deaf and hard of hearing students and is tasked with developing and disseminating innovative curricula, instructional techniques, and products nationwide while providing information, training, and technical assistance for parents and professionals to meet the needs of deaf and hard of hearing students from birth to age 21.

Summary:
Dorm Assistants assist Residence Education personnel with monitoring and supervising high school students; ensures that school policies are followed; tracks attendance and fills out communication logs; covers campus activities; and assists students with homework assignments.This is on-call position and the hours vary.
Job Description:
Qualifications:
  • Minimum two years college/university coursework;
  • Knowledge and understanding of adolescent needs and characteristics and deafness; familiarity with residence hall program management and student discipline; willingness to work evenings, overnight, and on weekends;
  • First aid/CPR certification required or willingness to obtain;
  • Fluency in American Sign Language required.
