Regional Director, Tax & Accounting Services โ€“ West U.S.

Weโ€™re seeking a regional business leader (not a heads-down technical role) to own and grow our Tax & Accounting business across the West U.S.

Youโ€™ll inherit teams, processes, and client relationships from both legacy and acquired firms, and turn them into one high-performing, integrated regional operation aligned to a national vision.

Location: This is a remote role for the Western US; San Francisco Bay area or Dallas preferred.

What Youโ€™ll Own

Lead the Regional Business:

  • Full accountability for revenue growth, profitability, client retention, and team performance.

  • Build and execute a regional strategy aligned with national expansion.

  • Act as executive sponsor and escalation point for key clients and partners.

  • Partner closely with Wealth Management leadership and acquired-firm principals to drive collaboration and growth.

Drive Integration & Operational Scale:

  • Lead integration of acquired firms: workflows, service standards, org design, and culture.

  • Assess current operations and implement scalable, repeatable processes.

  • Set and manage KPIs around productivity, turnaround, quality, retention, and profitability.

  • Partner with Product/Transformation to deploy technology and standardized service models.

Build & Lead the Team:

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing regional leadership team (tax, accounting, bookkeeping, operations).

  • Upgrade talent where needed; build a culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.

  • Identify and grow future leaders; attract and retain top performers in a competitive market.

  • Guide teams through change, integration, and ambiguity.

Deepen Client & Cross-Functional Partnerships:

  • Earn trust with acquired partners, advisors, and clients through transitions.

  • Work closely with Wealth Management, Financial Planning, and Client Services to deliver an integrated client experience.

  • Support client retention, referral conversion, and expansion (โ€œshare of walletโ€) across the platform.

  • Champion a client-first culture: responsiveness, proactive communication, and long-term relationships.

Provide Oversight, Not Day-to-Day Production:

  • Offer executive oversight and strategic guidance on tax planning, structuring, compliance, and risk.

  • Ensure technical quality, regulatory compliance, fiduciary standards, and ethics.

  • Maintain strong quality-control and escalation frameworks while empowering technical leaders to execute.

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • CPA required; advanced degree (MST, JD, MBA) preferred

  • 12+ years of progressive leadership in tax, accounting, wealth management, or professional services

  • Proven ownership of a regional business, practice, or operating unit with P&L accountability

  • Experience leading scale, operational transformation, and/or post-acquisition integration

  • Strong track record influencing across matrixed, multi-stakeholder environments

  • Experience assessing and upgrading inherited teams and building scalable leadership structures

  • Commercial orientation with demonstrated growth and retention results

  • Executive presence and the ability to lead seasoned experts

  • Uncompromising integrity and commitment to fiduciary standards, ethics, and compliance

Nice to Have

  • Experience with physicians, dentists, medical groups, or HNW clients

  • Background in PE-backed, fast-scaling, or acquisitive environments

  • Familiarity with physician practice structures and multi-entity/pass-through environments

  • Experience leading distributed or multi-office professional services organizations
