Position Summary


The Director of People Operations will help lead the People Team to enrich EO's culture, collaborate and support other departments, and drive key initiatives to serve a bilingual employee base. This role reports to the Head of People and will directly oversee the transactional processes for ~130 employees in both administration and warehouse/production environments. This influential leader partners with the HOP to research, initiate, plan, provide direction, develop, and implement processes, policies, training and development, rewards, succession planning and activities for both onsite and remote employees.


The Director will also be an important member of the Catalyst leadership group, with process ownership of sending company updates and distribution of departmental meeting content. They are a passionate champion of EO's goal to continuously foster an inclusive, healthy, growth-oriented and fun company culture.

The work of the Director of People Operations supports existing KPIs relating to employee satisfaction, safety incident rates, recruiting metrics, learning and development. They will also be instrumental to developing future KPIs to enhance the People Operations success and service to the broader EO team.

Responsibilities


People and Culture

  • Partner with HOP and People Team to manage compensation/payroll, benefits, talent acquisition, employee relations and disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, separations, leaves of absence, occupational health and safety, and training and development
  • Lead best-in-class service-oriented department, using data to drive decisions while keeping the 'human' in human resources at the forefront of recommendations
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate and implement policies, processes, and training to support the organization's human resource compliance and strategy needs
  • Promote and model a positive, respectful workplace through an effective open-door policy, creativity, self-confidence, and trust
  • Demonstrate advocacy, authority and fairness in resolving issues while maintaining the high standard of people service of the organization
  • Support, and evolve diversity, equity and inclusion by being a front-line advocate of an inclusive work environment that fosters belonging


Systems and Process Oversight

  • Maintain HRIS database and support ongoing development of HR technology, maximizing the value of reporting, tracking, and key metrics
  • Recommend new approaches, policies, and procedures to promote continuous improvement
  • Manage the process for drafting, modifying, and implementing standard operating procedure and updating the Employee Handbook
  • Monitor and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, recommended best practices; communicate findings to key stakeholders
  • Partner with benefits brokers and People Operations Manager to oversee benefits, including new enrollments, life event changes, and the Open Enrollment process
  • Partner with third party vendor and People Operations Manager to oversee Leave of Absence process
  • Provides oversight to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, garnishments, benefit changes, and changes to pay rates


Workforce Management & Development

  • Coach leaders to improve individual and team performance through performance management, associate development, and empowerment
  • Coach, develop, and support People Team members; coordinate scheduling, departmental payroll needs, and departmental representation across all three EO campus buildings
  • Oversee the administration and continuous improvement of EO's regular performance management processes, including disputes, investigations, disciplinary matters, issue resolution, workplace investigations and any related documentation
  • Partner with the People Operations Manager in direct coordination of employee offboarding; conduct exit interviews and coordinate any related follow-up activities
  • Manage incident reporting process across the organization; ensure full completion of reporting, safety investigations, and action item completion with process stakeholders
  • Partner with the People Team Generalist in training program administration, including: safety trainings, safety certification management (PITs, scissor lifts, CPR, etc.), and global learning and development initiatives
  • Facilitate regular safety committee meetings
  • Manage interdepartmental safety project tracking, tracking safety committee initiatives and action items to completion


Other

  • Support a safe working environment by reporting any unsafe conditions or observed, unsafe conduct
  • Partner with the finance department on any benadmin and payroll related needs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, reporting and best practices
  • Regularly create opportunities to connect with all departments for feedback, accessibility, and developmental opportunities on all levels of the organization
  • Perform other tasks and projects as directed



Skills/Qualifications


  • Must have advanced proficiency in Spanish
  • Knowledge of compliance best practice and regulations in California
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion and drive for the People Operations function; proven track record of leading performance in People function
  • Strong creative problem solving, group collaboration, and influencing, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, and flexible
  • Strong computer literacy skills with proficiency in communication software and HRIS systems
  • Prior payroll experience preferred
  • Ability and past success in multitasking and triaging competing priorities
  • Demonstrated grace-under-fire professionalism


Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in Human Resources/People Department with at least 3 years managing general HR responsibilities including employee relations required
  • Previous experience in manufacturing or majority non-exempt environment strongly preferred
  • SHRM certification a plus

General Work Environment


This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

This job frequently visits production floor or warehouse environments. The employee would be near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, temperature extremes, fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high.
