Day Kimball Health is hiring for a Director of Laboratory Services to join our Laboratory in Putnam, CT!
Schedule: Day Shift, 40 Hours Per Week
Weekends: if applicable
Staff department on a 24-hour basis (if applicable) with flexibility to meet changing needs.

As the Director, Laboratory Services you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for...
Under the direction of the Executive Director of Laboratory, assumes 24-hour accountability for the Laboratory Department. Fosters departmental quality and meets department and hospital standards. Assures that the goals, mission, and philosophy of the hospital and Patient Care Services are consistently implemented within his/her scope of responsibility. Plans and works flexible hours and days in order to meet the needs and requirements of the department.
Is given general guidance and direction and is expected to function with initiative and independent judgment. Assists with the development, interpretation and application of department policies, budgets and long-range plans. Supports the vision of the corporation and department and acts as a change agent of senior management.
Director, Laboratory Services Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the supervision and day-to-day operations in a multifaceted team environment.
  • Hires, terminates, monitors, evaluates and coaches employees regarding performance, conduct, attendance, and other related matters. Holds staff accountable to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and evaluates department activities against established standards, policies, and procedures. Initiates corrective action and evaluates results. Meets CAP and other regulatory standards.
  • Acts as a representative of the hospital in outside associations and negotiations. Formulates action plans, which incorporate present and future equipment and staffing to remain competitive in the market.
  • Implements and designs, with team, new policies and procedures
  • that enhance our customer and employee relationships.
  • Knows and evaluates reimbursement policies and practices with an ongoing working knowledge of future health care programs.
  • Develops department budget and monitors variances.
  • Maintains open dialogue with both the medical director and hospital administration on all Laboratory operations, including but not limited to, capital expenditures, expenses, and revenue.
  • Interacts with physician office and nursing home staff to maintain good working relationships.

Director, Laboratory Services Education and Experience Requirements:
Education
  • Baccalaureate degree in Business/Microbiology/Biology or related field from an approved college or university required.
  • Masters degree preferred.

Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years managerial experience in Laboratory environment required.

Director, Laboratory Services Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to foster collaboration and positive working relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports, policies, and correspondence.
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality.
  • Applies a system-wide perspective and sound judgment in decision-making with potential organizational impact.
  • Effective conflict resolution, negotiation, stress management, and time management skills.
