Job description

Role Overview:
We're seeking a hands-on software engineer to lead the development of high-quality desktop experiences using Flutter (Dart) at McAfee. In this role, you will design, build, and deliver performant, reliable, and polished features for macOS and Windows-elevating the overall user experience while ensuring scalability and maintainability.
You will drive the end-to-end implementation of complex features, from technical design through delivery and ongoing support, while contributing to the evolution of architecture patterns across the codebase, including modularity, state management, navigation, and testing. You will also develop robust, native-like desktop capabilities such as windowing, menus, keyboard shortcuts, and accessibility features, and integrate Flutter seamlessly with native macOS and Windows APIs using secure and maintainable approaches.
Partnering closely with cross-functional teams, you will participate in design discussions, code reviews, and technical documentation, raising the bar for engineering excellence through best practices and thoughtful execution.
This is a Hybrid position located in either Frisco, TX or in either Waterloo or Toronto, Canada. You will be required to be onsite on an as needed basis. When you are not working onsite you will work from your home office. We are only considering candidates within a commutable distance of Frisco, TX, or to Waterloo or Toronto, Canada and are not offering relocation assistance at this time.
About the Role
  • Design, build, and ship Flutter (Dart) features for desktop (macOS and Windows) with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and UX polish.

  • Drive end-to-end implementation of complex features, from technical design through delivery and maintenance.

  • Contribute to and evolve architecture patterns across the codebase (modularity, state management, navigation, testing).

  • Build high-quality native desktop experiences, including windowing, menus, keyboard shortcuts, and accessibility.

  • Integrate Flutter with native macOS and Windows APIs via platform channels in a secure, maintainable way.

  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and technical documentation; raise the overall engineering bar through example.

About You
  • 7+ years of experience building and shipping production software, with strong hands-on Flutter/Dart experience.

  • Solid system design skills and experience working in large, evolving codebases.

  • Good understanding of macOS and Windows desktop UX conventions and application architecture.

  • Experience integrating Flutter with native desktop code and debugging across language/runtime boundaries.

  • Practical expertise with state management (e.g., Riverpod, Bloc, Provider) and an understanding of tradeoffs.

  • Ability to influence technical direction through clear designs, thoughtful reviews, and collaboration, without relying on formal authority.

  • Experience with security- or privacy-sensitive desktop software is a plus.

  • Familiarity with macOS/Windows Human Interface Guidelines and accessibility best practices is a plus.

  • Exposure to desktop distribution workflows (code signing, notarization, sandboxing) is a plus.
