Job description

General Definition and Conditions of Work The IT Support Engineer I position's job duties span all aspects of end user support which includes, but is not limited to desktop, network, general security, email, phone system, inside and outside cable plant and cloud support; does related work as required. The Support Engineer 1 position performs intermediate professional and technical work and assists with technology implementations. The position maintains a varied workload that requires frequent context switching across a large selection of technologies.

The Support Engineer I position reports directly to the Support Engineer II position. Work is performed under moderate to regular supervision by the Support Engineer II position. This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.

Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Essential Functions Configuring, installing and maintaining workstations, network connections for workstations and networked and standalone printers; providing frequent technical support and training to users; troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining computer software, hardware, printers and office equipment; installing and upgrading information systems; preparing and maintaining files and records

Performs workstation maintenance and end user support; Performs all new workstation setup and deployment; Maintains, creates and updates hard disk images for new workstation deployment; Maintains, upgrades and creates workstation software images; updates processes and software; Pulls copper and fiber cable, works in ceilings and with network fiber optic and traditional OSP with other IT staff; Trains users on workstation PCs and software; Conducts phone system maintenance; resolves end user problems; works with repair/support vendor; Conducts video/streaming/camera equipment maintenance; resolves end user problems; works with repair/support vendors; Performs related tasks as required. May occasionally participate in Town/public events representing IT. Education and Experience Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in electronic data processing and programming and considerable experience in the operation of midrange and personal computer equipment, network administration and the application of software processes related to these platforms.
