Job description

Design Drafter

Owatonna, MN | Direct Hire | $30-35/hour | Overtime paid time and a half

Konik is partnering with a well-respected manufacturing and engineering firm seeking a skilled Design Drafter to join their team. This role provides support to engineering and production by creating, updating, and maintaining detailed drawings for machinery, equipment, and custom assemblies. The ideal candidate will have hands-on CAD experience and a strong understanding of mechanical design principles.

Design Drafter Responsibilities:

  • Produce and update detailed 2D and 3D drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD to support engineering and production needs.
  • Prepare assembly, part, and detail drawings according to company standards and engineering specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production, and project managers to clarify design intent and ensure constructability.
  • Incorporate design changes and revisions into drawings, including Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  • Support the creation of bill of materials (BOMs) and verify drawing accuracy for manufacturing purposes.
  • Assist with document control and maintain organized CAD libraries, templates, and part families.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input to improve manufacturability, efficiency, and workflow.

Design Drafter Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical or industrial design drafting.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD; experience with other CAD tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, fabrication processes, and assembly methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience creating and maintaining BOMs preferred.
