The Dean Of Admissions typically holds a higher-level, administrative position responsible for overseeing the entire admissions process and staff, often requiring advanced education and leadership experience. Admissions Counselors focus on recruiting and evaluating prospective students, engaging directly with applicants. While both roles are vital in the admissions process, the Dean Of Admissions has broader strategic responsibilities compared to the more hands-on role of an Admissions Counselor.
A dean of admissions, or admissions director, is in charge of the admissions department for a college or university. As a dean of admissions, it is your job to oversee the entire admissions process to ensure university values are well reflected. Your typical duties involve developing recruitment strategies, creating new student criteria, and managing admissions counselors. You often communicate with high schools and community colleges to provide information about your institution to interested students. The career requires a background in education, usually with a master’s degree and relevant work experience in an academic environment.
