Job description

The Milwaukee YMCA is currently seeking a new Day Camp Direcotr for our Lincoln Park location in Glendale, WI.
Job Description
Under the direction of the Senior Director of Day Camp , and in the accordance with the association policies, the Day Camp Director will be responsible for the daily administration of Summer Day Camp and School's Out Day programs and their activities at their respective camp and branch. The Day Camp Director supervises and guides the Day Camp and School's Out Day staff to ensure that children's development occurs in a safe and healthy environment.
Qualifications
  • Preferred candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Child Development, Education, Sports and Recreation or related field from an accredited college/university, coursework includes six credits in early childhood education (Registry level 12 or higher)
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • 3+ years working in an organized children's program
  • 3+ years supervisory experience

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Good oral, auditory and written communication skills are required
  • Proven ability to have initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently
  • Strong public relations skills with excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Competent computer skills necessary to effectively perform job
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and obtain results through others
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with a high volume of work

Essential Functions
  • Hire, onboard, train, manage, and evaluate Day Camp staff to achieve desired program outcomes; nurture and role model leadership skills in high performing "A" level team members through career development plans.
  • Practice strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of an approved annual budget with recommended adjustments; assist with the management responsibility for overall fiscal management of the service areas assigned including variance reporting, forecasting/development and execution of plans to remain within budget.
  • Ensure Day Camp and School's Out Day programs are operating in accordance with the Young Star and Wisconsin Department of Early Care and Education rules and regulations for Child Care and Day Camps, including but not limited to staff patterns, ratios, equipment needs, program environment, surveys and records through sound operational practices.
  • Maintain Day Camp and School's Out Day programs that meet the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of individual children through age-appropriate key experiences including safety and risk reduction.
  • Assist with the development of staff meetings and ensure staff meet continuing education requirements; organize and be a lead in staff training and staff meetings, including required workshops or Day Camp trainings.
  • Assist with development and execution of strategic planning to support increased program quality and growth.
  • Building new partnership within the community around summer day camp and schools out day program.
    Attend community events and connect with local organizations to bring YMCA youth programs into the community.
  • Have the DC Director actively involved in the School Age (SA) Program to connect with families and schools more directly.
  • Collaborate with schools in region to promote and expand Schools Out Day programs and Day Camp
  • Increase participation in Day Camp and Schools out Day programming by building stronger relationships with families and community partners.
  • Study STEAM program curriculum provided to help create and assist in presenting lessons for various day camps throughout Milwaukee.
  • Responsible for adherence to all policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations.
  • Be a role model to our participants by demonstrating an appreciation for diversity and promote a culture of inclusivity within a learning environment
  • Embody the four core values of the Y (caring, honesty, respect and responsibility) with a dedication to strengthening the foundations of the local community.
  • Serve as the main point of contact with Marketing for all Youth Development programs (ECE, SA, and DC).
  • Collaborate with Marketing to create new, engaging ways to promote all Youth Development offerings.
  • Build relationships and trust within the community
  • Helps people navigate healthcare, social services, and resources
  • Provides health education, outreach, and support
  • Assists individuals with managing needs like food access, housing, or health appointments
  • Advocates for community needs and helps reduce barriers to care
  • Support youth development food program by support the CACFP program during the year along with ensure our summer meals program is running smoothly.
  • Offers a safe, supportive space for teens to build confidence, leadership skills, and positive peer relationships.
  • Provides engaging activities such as sports, arts, community service projects, and career exploration opportunities.
  • Focuses on social-emotional development through mentorship, goal-setting, and youth voice/choice.
  • Helps teens stay active and connected with enrichment programs that promote healthy lifestyles and lifelong skills.
  • Be committed to the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee's Child Abuse/Neglect Prevention efforts as a mandatory reporter.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Leadership staff.
