Sr. Power BI Dashboard developer
Piscataway, NJ /. Charlotte, NC
Position type: W2 contract.
Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Dashboard Developer to design, develop, and optimize enterprise reporting and analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in dashboard development, reporting layer data aggregation, SQL, data modeling, and translating business KPI requirements into interactive, scalable dashboards.

This role requires close collaboration with business stakeholders, data analysts, and data engineering teams to deliver governed, high-performance reporting solutions. Experience in the insurance industry, particularly with underwriting and broker reporting, is highly preferred. Familiarity with Databricks, Azure, semantic models, and enterprise reporting best practices is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Translate business requirements and KPI definitions into intuitive and actionable dashboards.
  • Develop reporting layer data models and optimize semantic models for enterprise reporting.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and validation.
  • Build reusable datasets, semantic models, and governed reporting solutions.
  • Develop advanced calculations, measures, and KPIs using DAX.
  • Utilize Power Query (M Language) for data transformation and preparation.
  • Optimize dashboard performance through efficient data modeling, query tuning, and report optimization techniques.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to integrate data from Azure, Databricks, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Ensure data accuracy through reconciliation, validation, and testing.
  • Support enterprise reporting governance, security, and data quality initiatives.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, report specifications, and user guides.
  • Work closely with business users to gather reporting requirements and provide analytical insights.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Power BI dashboard development (12+ years for Senior Dashboard Developer roles).
