Job description

Overview

CVP is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to join our team in providing high-quality emergency care to our Nation's Veterans at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. This position involves working in the Emergency Department, delivering critical care to Veterans with acute medical conditions.

We have full-time, part-time and PRN contract positions available.ย 

Responsibilities
  • Utilize broad-based clinical knowledge to effectively assess, implement health promotion and prevention interventions, and manage acute illnesses and injuries in an emergency setting

  • Perform rapid patient assessments and triage to prioritize care based on acuity levels

  • Initiate appropriate emergency interventions, treatments, and procedures according to established protocols

  • Monitor and identify changes in patient status, rapidly responding to life-threatening situations

  • Provide patient-centered care by developing care plans and responding to significant changes in patient health conditions

  • Document patient assessments and plans of care in the electronic medical record using designated templates within required timeframes

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, maintaining 100% accuracy with Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA)

  • Perform various emergency nursing procedures including IV insertion, central line care, wound care, and blood product administration

  • Coordinate patient flow through the emergency department including admissions and discharges

  • Perform cardiac monitoring and interpret basic cardiac rhythms

  • Respond to and assist in emergency situations including resuscitation efforts

  • Communicate effectively with physicians, healthcare team members, patients, and families

  • Demonstrate VA core values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence (ICARE)
  • Complete all CPRS clinical alerts daily and maintain proper documentation

  • Support trauma response and mass casualty protocols when necessary

Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year recent experience in Emergency Department nursing

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registered nurse license in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

  • Demonstrated proficiency in all elements of emergency nursing process

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Ability to undergo and pass a government-sponsored background investigation (U.S. Citizenship Required)

  • Ability to physically perform a full range of nursing duties without restrictions

  • Experience with emergency procedures, trauma protocols, and critical interventions preferred
