Job Summary
The Draftsman is primarily responsible for the drafting of casework and custom millwork. The Draftsman is responsible for the production of all submittal drawings and shop drawings required for architectural millwork and custom fabrication projects. This position requires the ability to read and interpret architectural and interior design drawings. Draftsman responsibilities include: gathering drawings and specifications, calculating material and equipment requirements, and setting up production methods. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and self-motivation is required to properly and accurately design products for fabrication and shop assembly. The Draftsman will work closely with the Engineering Manager to problem solve fabrication issues and ensure that the quality of the shop drawings and product designs meet company standards.
Essential Job Functions
  1. Create accurate CAD drawings from hand sketches created by engineers and architects, verbal instructions, and site visits
  2. Design plans using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software, including Microvellum
  3. Help design products with engineering and manufacturing techniques
  4. Prepare multiple versions of designs for review by engineers and architects
  5. Specify dimensions, materials, and procedures for new products
  6. Design diagrams, maps, and layouts to illustrate workflow
  7. Identify potential operational issues and redesign products to improve functionality and communicate potential design problems to the rest of the team.
  8. Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards
  9. Calculate dimensions, weight limitations and requirements in materials
  10. Seamlessly integrate and work with project managers, design consultants, and sub-contractors, to produce and alter drawings and incorporate knowledge gained into drawings. Conduct field measurements, as needed.
  11. Think creatively and critically to support the project team in the design process; create sketches and drawings that work
  12. Create and continually update project drawings and lists
  13. Print various formats of drawing sets for project managers and site superintendents
  14. Systematically save sketches and drawings on our server; keep the server organized; update project folders and files as jobs progress and revisions are made
  15. Review and check sketches and drawings for errors
  16. Seek clarity and understanding from engineers and project managers when not 100% certain of something
  17. Create, edit, and update standards
  18. Help identify potential quality, material savings, and design cost issues
  19. Operate all necessary software including Auto CAD, Microvellum, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  20. Must read all emails daily and respond to them on a regular basis
  21. Must perform other related duties as assigned or requested at the discretion of management

Requirements
Education, Experience, Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.
  • 5 + years of experience of Auto CAD drafting experience.
  • 3+ years of experience working in millwork industry preferred.
  • Experience in millwork/cabinetmaking & 3D Rendering/Modeling is a plus.
  • Creative and theming project experience is a plus.
  • High level math with an analytical mindset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Outlook, Word, internet Explorer, and Internet search engines
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
  • Must have a clean driving record with a valid Florida Driver License and proof of insurance.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl, and talk. This job requires hearing and visual acuity, frequent near vision use, exceptional hand-eye coordination, and repetitive motions. The employee will often be put in stressful situations. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to handle hazardous materials in a safe manner. Must be comfortable climbing up tall ladders and working at elevated levels.
Working Conditions
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee will work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. The employee must be able to work in extreme weather (Cold/Heat/Rain).
