Boulder Mills is the proud sister company of Tharp Custom Cabinetry. Together, we bring expertly crafted custom millwork and cabinetry to residential and commercial projects across Colorado, offering a unique blend of capabilities that ensure quality and innovation for every space.


The Manufacturing Draftsman is responsible for producing accurate, manufacturable shop drawings and production documentation that translate design intent into efficient, high-quality manufactured products. This role works closely with Sales, Project Management, and Production to ensure designs meet company standards for quality, safety, cost efficiency, and manufacturability.


The position primarily utilizes Microvellum software and will be cross-trained in Cabinet Vision to support drafting needs for Tharp Custom Cabinetry when required by workload, scheduling, or operational priorities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce detailed, production-ready shop drawings, cut lists, and reports using Microvellum and CAD software.
  • Evaluate project feasibility to ensure designs meet Boulder Mills' standards for quality, safety, accuracy, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, and Production to support smooth project handoffs and resolve design or manufacturing challenges.
  • Prepare and organize complete drawing and submittal packages, including floor plans, elevations, product codes, and specifications.
  • Prioritize drafting tasks to align with production schedules, lead times, and shipping deadlines.
  • Revise drawings based on field measurements, client feedback, engineering changes, and project updates.
  • Compile, review, and submit finalized drawing sets using Bluebeam.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve drafting standards, workflows, and documentation.
  • Assist with software updates, libraries, and engineering documentation as needed.
  • Cross-train in Cabinet Vision to provide drafting support for Tharp Custom Cabinetry during peak workloads or special projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam for drawing review, markup, and submittals.
  • Strong computer skills, including:
  • Microvellum and CAD-based drafting tools
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook/Exchange)
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet production deadlines.
  • Experience supporting CNC or manufacturing output from drafting software.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement or standardized drafting systems.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on Microvellum experience in a manufacturing, millwork, or cabinet environment required.
  • Prior design and drafting experience in a production or manufacturing setting required.
  • 1-year direct work experience in project or construction management preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of construction and general contracting preferred
  • Engineering/CAD experience required
  • Experience with Cabinet Vision (or willingness to learn through cross-training).
  • Custom cabinet or architectural millwork manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and shop processes.

Education or Formal Training: High School Diploma


Physical Activities and Safety: 90% sitting, 10% walking - Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must strictly adhere to company safety policy, including wearing safety glasses where required.
