General Purpose: The Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating project costs, collaborating with clients and internal teams, and ensuring bids are competitive while maintaining profitability. This role requires strong technical knowledge of millwork fabrication, materials, and installation processes, along with excellent communication and organizational skills.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, and client requirements to develop accurate project estimates.
  • Prepare detailed estimates for materials, labor, delivery and subcontractor costs specific to custom millwork projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and production teams to clarify project scope and identify potential challenges.
  • Research and source material pricing and labor rates to ensure accurate cost projections.
  • Develop comprehensive bid packages and proposals, including schedules, cost breakdowns, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project history for future reference and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor industry trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure competitive and profitable bids.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed to gather information and assess project feasibility.
  • Support production planning by providing accurate material and labor forecasts for upcoming projects.
  • Research and procure pricing of source materials, subcontractor quotes for outsourced materials and labor rates to ensure accurate cost projection.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide construction contract feedback.
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and building codes.
  • Proficient in takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to efficiently manage, analyze, and present data.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in cost estimation and documentation.
  • Knowledge of materials, finishes, and fabrication techniques used in custom millwork.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of estimating experience in a construction or architectural trade required; experience in custom millwork, woodworking, or cabinetry—preferably in estimating, engineering, production or installation of custom millwork in a commercial setting, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP or project management software specific to millwork/fabrication shops.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction and installation processes.


Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily sedentary work, sitting for extended periods while using a computer and phone.
  • Ability to frequently use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to see and read documents, drawings, and computer screens accurately.
  • Occasional walking, standing, bending, or reaching within the office as needed for meetings, printing, or file retrieval.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly via phone and in-person.
  • Ability to lift or carry items up to 25 lbs occasionally.
