Job description

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift
Job Type: 12-Week Contract | 0.9 FTE | 72 Hours Bi-Weekly ​

Position overview

An experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse is required for a night-shift contract role, providing high-quality emergency and trauma care to a diverse patient population in a fast-paced, rural or critical access hospital environment. This position is ideal for a highly skilled ED nurse who can practice autonomously on nights while collaborating effectively with the broader clinical team.​

Schedule and location

The role is structured as 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 0.9 FTE, totaling 72 hours per pay period. The schedule includes a rotating pattern of two weekends on / one weekend off, supplemented with weekday shifts as assigned.​

Key responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients across the lifespan, from triage through disposition.​

  • Perform rapid triage, assessment, and stabilization of patients with a broad range of acuity levels, including trauma and medical emergencies.​

  • Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments according to provider orders and emergency department protocols.​

  • Respond promptly to life-threatening situations and participate in resuscitation, code, and rapid-response events.​

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, EMS personnel, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate timely, effective care.​

  • Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately and efficiently within the EPIC EMR.​

  • Maintain strict adherence to hospital policies, infection prevention practices, patient safety protocols, and regulatory standards.​

  • Participate in scheduled weekend and holiday rotations as required by departmental staffing needs.​

Required qualifications and skills
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin or a current compact RN license.​

  • Minimum of 5 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience.​

  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from an accredited provider.​

  • Demonstrated expertise in triage, critical thinking, rapid clinical decision-making, and emergency response.​

  • Experience in rural or Critical Access Hospital emergency settings preferred.​

  • Proficiency with EPIC EMR for documentation and order management.​

  • Ability to work independently and confidently during night shifts with limited onsite resources.​
