Job description

L&L Concrete is a full-service construction contractor based in Morrisville, NC, known for delivering quality work and dependable service on commercial construction projects. We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to support accurate, timely payroll processing for a construction workforce that may include hourly field employees, salaried staff, prevailing wage projects, and multi-job cost allocations. In this role, the Payroll Specialist will partner with finance accounting, project managers, and field supervisors to maintain payroll records, review timekeeping data, support certified payroll reporting, and assist with payroll-related compliance under applicable federal, state, and local requirements. This position is well suited for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, deadline-focused, and able to handle confidential employee information with professionalism and care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Process weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees.

· Review, audit, and import timekeeping data.

· Verify payroll calculations, including regular hours, overtime, double time, shift differentials, bonuses, per diem, and commissions when applicable.

· Process payroll through QuickBooks Payroll.

· Maintain employee payroll records and tax information.

· Process payroll in compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, prevailing wage, and Davis-Bacon requirements.

· Prepare and submit certified payroll reports.

· Process payroll-related employee changes, including new hires, terminations, pay rate updates, garnishments, child support orders, and direct deposit changes.

· Reconcile payroll reports and related general ledger accounts.

· Coordinate payroll tax filings and year-end reporting, including W-2 preparation.

· Assist with workers’ compensation reporting and payroll audits.

· Maintain accurate job costing and labor allocations by project.

· Work with project managers and field supervisors to resolve missing, incomplete, or inaccurate time entries.

· Respond to employee payroll questions professionally and promptly.

· Maintain the confidentiality of employee payroll information.

· Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field preferred.

· Three or more years of payroll experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

· Construction payroll experience preferred.

· Experience processing payroll for a multi-employee workforce preferred.

· Experience using QuickBooks Payroll or a comparable payroll system required.

· Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage-and-hour requirements.

· Experience with certified payroll reporting is preferred.

· Familiarity with prevailing wage requirements preferred.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

· Ability to review numerical data and identify discrepancies.

· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
