Job description

Senior Competitive Intelligence Manager

Dentons US LLP is recruiting for a Senior Competitive Intelligence Manager to join the Clients and Markets department. The Senior Manager of Competitive Intelligence plays a strategic leadership role within the Clients and Markets team, overseeing the firm's competitive intelligence program and delivering insights that inform business development, client strategy, pricing and firmwide decision-making. This role is responsible for setting the direction of competitive intelligence efforts, supervising intelligence professionals and ensuring that insights are synthesized into actionable guidance for lawyers and business development leadership.

The Senior Manager partners closely with senior stakeholders across practices, industries, pricing, knowledge and leadership to anticipate market trends, evaluate competitive dynamics and strengthen the firm's market positioning. This position combines deep analytical expertise with strong people leadership and cross-functional collaboration. This is a hybrid position.

Responsibilities 

1. Competitive intelligence strategy and leadership

  • Lead the firm's competitive intelligence strategy, ensuring alignment with business development, client growth and firmwide priorities
  • Identify emerging market, industry and competitive trends and proactively surface insights to senior leadership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to practice leaders and BD leadership on competitive positioning and market developments
  • Drive continual improvement in intelligence methodologies, tools and processes

2. Team management and development

  • Supervise, mentor and develop competitive intelligence professionals
  • Set priorities, manage workloads and ensure consistent quality and timeliness of deliverables
  • Provide coaching and training to support skill development and career progression
  • Establish best practices and standards for research, analysis and intelligence reporting

3. Competitive and market analysis

  • Oversee in-depth research and analysis on competitors, clients, industries and geographic markets
  • Lead the development of benchmarking and comparative analyses related to firm performance, practice capabilities, pricing and pitch outcomes
  • Monitor law firm activity including mergers, lateral movements and new practice launches
  • Evaluate regulatory developments, emerging markets and evolving legal service delivery models that may impact client needs

4. Client and business development support

  • Partner with BD, pricing and proposal teams to embed competitive intelligence into pitches, RFP responses and client strategies
  • Advise on positioning strategies based on competitor analysis and prior pitch outcomes
  • Support client listening and feedback initiatives and strategic account planning through targeted intelligence
  • Ensure firm messaging is current, accurate and aligned with approved language

5. Intelligence distribution and communication

  • Oversee the creation and distribution of tailored intelligence products including briefings, alerts, dashboards and executive summaries
  • Ensure insights are presented clearly and concisely for senior audiences
  • Develop scalable reporting formats that can be leveraged firmwide
  • Provide training to lawyers and BD professionals on effectively using competitive intelligence

6. Collaboration and cross-functional partnership

  • Work closely with research, library, knowledge, IT, pricing and marketing teams to optimize intelligence gathering and tools
  • Partner with global colleagues to share best practices and intelligence insights across regions
  • Contribute meaningfully to firmwide initiatives related to innovation, client service and market strategy

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum ten years of experience in competitive intelligence, market research, business development or strategy within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Prior people management or team leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience delivering strategic insights to senior stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge of legal and financial research platforms including LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, PitchBook and PACER
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to translate complex information into actionable recommendations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including executive-level presentations
  • Strong project management and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality

Salary

Pursuant with states' laws, the salary range for this position is $160,000 - $190,000, based on experience and local market.
