Job description

Cherry Bekaert, the nation's 20th largest public accounting firm, seeks a Tax Senior Manager for its National Tax Office (NTO) to provide technical tax services related to compensation and benefits and employment taxes. This highly visible position offers excellent training, development, feedback, and professional growth. We're looking for an extremely bright and motivated tax professional with a CPA and/or JD. Government experience is a plus.

What Does Your Day Look Like?

As a member of the firm's NTO and reporting directly to the Lead of the C&B function within NTO, you will work directly with Cherry Bekaert professionals and their clients to provide federal tax expertise related to compensation and benefits and employment taxes. As a rapidly growing public accounting firm servicing the middle market, you will help to develop the vision, strategies, and action plans to grow Cherry Bekaert's tax practice as well as ensure the profitability of such practice. You have the opportunity to help build-out the technical resource for / thought leadership for Cherry Bekaert's C&B Practice Group. This includes the opportunity to deal directly with Cherry Bekaert professionals and their clients, managing internal resources to complete client projects, collaborate with NTO leaders across other disciplines, drive the adoption of best practices in answering federal tax questions and recommending courses of actions to clients and our professionals, to support the development of the firm's technical positions across the C&B space, as well as support the firm in its internal growth.

Note that Cherry Bekaert's client offerings include Human Resources Consulting, a group which provides expertise in managing:

  • Total rewards, including executive compensation, fringe benefits and retirement plans,

  • HR operations, including compliance and strategy, and,

  • Organizational Development and employee engagement.

You will be part of the technical tax and ERISA resource for this team.

Specifically, primary responsibilities are focused in the following areas:

  • Providing tax consulting and advisory services to Cherry Bekaert professionals and their clients.

  • Work closely with fellow NTO specialists to ensure comprehensive technical soundness on tax consulting and advisory advice.

  • Working with HR Consulting to ensure federal tax and ERISA compliance

  • Participating in national C&B professional groups.

  • Researching and writing technical tax memoranda.

  • Developing thought leadership and other external marketing materials

  • Developing and delivering internal staff training for tax issues.

  • Assisting with internal and external webinars and presentations.

  • Assisting with firm-wide quality control procedures.

What Do You Need for this Role?

Strong communication and organizational skills are needed as is a passion for working with our professionals and their clients. The following are also needed:

  • CPA and/or JD.

  • At least 6 years working with federal tax issues related to compensation and benefits and employment tax issues.

  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.

  • Engaging and effective presentation style.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
