Job Description:

This is an internal position in Washington National Tax to provide thought leadership to the Baker Tilly tax practice and clients. This position is ideal for tax specialists who want to expand their technical skills and build a career in a specific field of tax. We are seeking a strong individual with deep knowledge and demonstrated experience in the taxation of compensation and benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of current developments and preparing tax alerts for the Firm designed to advise team members on current developments coming out of Washington and the courts as they relate to their practice)
  • Provide technical support to team members in the tax, audit, consulting and internal HR practices on employee benefit/executive compensation issues affecting their projects it is anticipated that this will entail either briefing the team member on the relevant issues ,attending client meetings with the team member, or by reviewing the issues with the client or its legal counsel or advisors directly .It is anticipated that the delivery of these services will involve the preparation of e-mails and planning memos, as well conference calls and meetings
  • Responsible for leading the development of new business product and service line strategy in area of the tax and audit practices
  • Responsible for assistance in the development of new business product and service line strategy in area of the tax and audit
  • Responsible for assisting the National Controversy Group in the preparation and submission of Firm Tax opinions addressing Employee Benefit and Executive Compensation issues ,in conjunction with transactional tax work (including due diligence and Golden Parachute consulting),and submission of letters for ruling by the Internal Revenue Service
  • Responsible for assisting the National Controversy Group with technical employee benefits/executive compensation support in connection with clients undergoing tax examinations by the Internal Revenue Service
Qualifications
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years experience working in tax law with emphasis on executive compensation,transaction related compensation issues and employee benefits required
  • 4-year degree required
  • Either Masters degree in Taxation or Juris Doctorate from accredited law school preferred
  • CPA, Law License or EA required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience relating to the taxation of compensation and benefits, including IRC 409A, 83, 162(m), and 280G in both privately and publicly held companies
  • 5+ years of supervisory experiencepreferred
  • 12+ years of experience with a large accounting firm, law firm or relevant tax policy-making entity required
  • Demonstrated strong research, analytical, critical thinking, and project management skills Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to provide exceptional client service, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning in order to stay current regarding applicable strategies, see the "big picture" as well as the details, display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment, and exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and the timely completion of projects
  • Ability to modify their schedule on a daily/weekly basis as tax developments occur

The pay rate ranges for this position are listed below. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements and geographic location. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.

The national pay rate range is $164,300 to $362,600
