What is commission annuity sales?

Commission annuity sales refer to the process of selling annuity products, such as fixed or variable annuities, by financial professionals or insurance agents who earn a commission on each sale. These professionals help clients choose suitable annuity products for retirement or investment purposes, and their compensation is typically a percentage of the premium paid by the client. The commission structure can vary depending on the type of annuity, the insurance company, and the terms of the sale. Understanding how commissions affect annuity costs and agent recommendations is important for clients considering these products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission annuity sales professional?

To thrive in Commission Annuity Sales, you need a solid understanding of financial products, especially annuities, along with a valid insurance license in your state. Familiarity with CRM software, financial planning tools, and compliance management systems is commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, persuasive communication, and resilience in the face of rejection are vital soft skills for building client trust and closing sales. These abilities ensure you can effectively match products to client needs, maintain regulatory compliance, and achieve sales targets in a competitive environment.

What are some common challenges faced in commission-based annuity sales, and how can new agents overcome them?

One of the most common challenges in commission annuity sales is building a steady client base, as success is directly tied to personal sales performance. New agents often face initial rejection and must invest time in nurturing leads and educating clients on the benefits of annuities. To overcome these hurdles, it’s helpful to leverage mentorship from experienced team members, utilize company-provided training, and stay current on industry products and regulations. A proactive approach to networking and continuous learning can significantly improve long-term success in this role.

Job description

About Leverage Annuities

We are a team dedicated to helping people use annuities for growth, income, and peace of mind. For some clients that means guaranteed returns. For others it means a protected floor so their savings cannot lose value in a down market. For others it means a product that pays them income for the rest of their life. Every person is different, so we start by understanding what they want their money to do, and then we help them find the product that fits.

Our sales team works with a steady stream of qualified prospects generated through our national media partnerships and internal marketing efforts. Just meaningful conversations with people who are ready to make a plan.

The Role

As an Annuity Sales Representative at Leverage Annuities, you are the first voice our prospects hear. You will make outbound calls to leads generated by our marketing team, open real conversations with pre-retirees and retirees, and find out what they are trying to accomplish with their money. When we can help, you will walk them through the annuity options that best fit their goals.

This is not a script-reading job. You will be asking good questions, listening closely, and being honest when we are not the right fit. When we are the right fit, you will present solutions from top-rated carrier partners, backed by internal support, operations, case design, and onboarding teams.

This role is hybrid and based in Omaha, Nebraska. You will split your time between our Omaha office and working from home, so you need to live in the Omaha metro area or be willing to relocate. Client conversations happen by phone, video, email, and text.

What You'll Do

  • Make outbound calls to marketing-generated leads across the country
  • Lead discovery conversations to understand each person's retirement picture, goals, timeline, and concerns
  • Determine whether we can genuinely help, and say so honestly when we cannot
  • Present and explain annuity solutions, including Fixed Indexed Annuities, in plain, confident language
  • Run illustrations and income scenarios using products from our top-rated carrier partners
  • Guide clients from first conversation through application, underwriting, and onboarding
  • Engage via phone, email, text, and virtual meetings, wherever clients are
  • Keep clean records, activity logs, and follow-ups in Salesforce
  • Manage your own calendar and set follow-up conversations that actually happen
  • Collaborate with the team to keep improving the process and the client experience

What You Bring

Required

  • 1+ years of sales experience exceeding KPI metrics
  • Prior outbound calling or phone sales experience
  • Comfort with high-volume outbound calling and the resilience that comes with it
  • Willingness to obtain your Life & Health insurance license, plus non-resident licenses in additional states as needed
  • Strong consultative approach, meaning you lead with questions, not products
  • Ability to explain complex financial concepts in plain language
  • Comfort in a technology-enabled environment with CRM and digital communication tools
  • Highly organized with strong follow-up habits
  • Coachable, competitive, and consistent, meaning you show up every day

Preferred

  • Active Life & Health insurance license
  • 1+ years in annuity sales or insurance sales
  • Experience recommending Fixed Indexed Annuities
  • Familiarity with annuity illustration platforms and major carriers
  • Experience working with retirement-age clients
  • Salesforce experience

Compensation & Benefits

Leverage Annuities offers a W-2 structure with a competitive base salary and a commission model that rewards reps who show up consistently and close thoughtfully.

  • Base Salary: $50,000
  • Commission: 10% of the commission the company receives on business you close, uncapped
  • Target First-Year Total Compensation: $90,000 to $110,000 for successful reps
  • Health insurance - company subsidized for employees and families
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • Technology and equipment provided
  • Hybrid schedule based out of our Omaha, Nebraska office
  • Marketing-generated leads, no self-generated prospecting

Leverage Annuities is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourages applications from all qualified individuals.
