Job description

Job Title: BASE Instructors                                                      Department: Recreation/BASE

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Range: $15.00 - $16.00/hour DOQ                                                                     

Supervisor: Reports directly to the BASE Manager & BASE Supervisor (Indirectly reports to Site Leader)

Job Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old with good organizational skills and excellent customer service skills. 

Experience: Related experience or course work working with children preferred

Position Summary: BASE Instructors are responsible for following the lesson plans provided by the Site Leader, direct and oversee activities, and help assist with any participants needs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Help plan, implement, and lead a variety of age appropriate recreational and enrichment activities for children.
  • Provide safety and wellbeing of the BASE program participants.
  • Supervise children during all activities to ensure safety, while adhering to staff to student ratio.
  • Be aware of and enforce Park District and school district rules and expectations.
  • Must communicate effectively with adults and children.
  • Must have basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Direct all activities in a positive and professional manner.
  • Must attend all required meetings and complete required trainings.
  • Ability to react quickly, calmly and professionally during emergency situations or when accidents arise.
  • Must display ability to work well with others.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to new situations.
  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physiological Requirements: Base staff will be exposed to many activities that may require, but not limited to, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, kneeling, squatting, walking, reaching, and bending.  Ability to lift to 50lbs.

Environmental Considerations: Base staff will be exposed to heat, wind, sunlight, humidity, snow, and temperatures as low as 40 degrees when outdoors for program.

  • Must be able to follow direction and perform job functions as described.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Must possess good problem-solving skills.
