What does a Coffee Farm Manager do?

A Coffee Farm Manager oversees all aspects of coffee production on a farm, including planting, cultivating, harvesting, and processing coffee beans. They manage farm workers, monitor crop health, and implement sustainable farming practices to ensure high-quality yields. Additionally, they handle budgeting, equipment maintenance, and compliance with agricultural regulations. Their role is crucial in maintaining productivity and ensuring the profitability of the coffee farm.

What are some common challenges faced by Coffee Farm Managers in maintaining crop health and yield?

Coffee Farm Managers often face challenges such as unpredictable weather patterns, pest infestations, and diseases like coffee leaf rust. Successfully managing these issues requires a proactive approach to crop monitoring, implementing integrated pest management strategies, and staying informed about sustainable farming techniques. Collaboration with agronomists and local cooperatives can also help address these challenges and improve overall yield and quality. Adaptability and strong problem-solving skills are key to overcoming these obstacles in a dynamic agricultural environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Coffee Farm Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Coffee Farm Manager, you need expertise in agronomy, crop management, business operations, and typically a background in agriculture or related fields. Familiarity with farm management software, irrigation systems, and agricultural certifications such as GLOBALG.A.P. or organic certification is highly valuable. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help manage workers and coordinate with suppliers and buyers. These combined skills ensure effective farm operations, high-quality crop yields, and sustainable business success.

Our Mission

George Howell Coffee's primary focus and passion is to identify, source and roast the highest quality coffees available so we can bring our customers the ultimate cup of coffee.

Who We Are

George began roasting our coffee in 2004 at our headquarters in Acton, MA, a decade after selling his 24 "The Coffee Connection" cafes to Starbucks in 1994, and 30 years after he started roasting coffee. Our signature coffee highlights the influence of the region, terroir, and the farmer’s craftsmanship in every bean. We roast to order and ship to customers all over the world, our three Boston cafes, and other retailers including Whole Foods Market.

Our Customers Come First
We want our customers to join us as we explore the rainbow of coffee flavors in every cup. We treat our coffees with precision and care, from export to storage to roasting to cup.

Quality Coffee Farmers Are Our Partners.

We are ambassadors for the farmers of fine quality coffees who are dedicated to knowledge and its dissemination, accurate execution, caring communication, detailed service and the highest levels of excellence. We trust and deeply respect their consistent dedication. We benefit from their hard work, attention to detail, and virtuosity – and pay accordingly, independent of the commodity market. As roasters and brewers, we are interpreters of the symphony composed by farmers interacting with nature. We strive to deliver, without overpowering, all layers of flavor inherent in great coffees.
