Salary Range $13.50 - $14.50 Hourly Position Type Part Time Hourly Non Exempt Category On Campus

Description

Job Summary The Library Circulation Assistant 1 is responsible for circulation of library materials, assisting patrons, and maintaining the reference, periodical, and bookstack areas. Duties/Responsibilities

  • Circulate library materials on the computer system: a) charge, discharge, renew materials; b) distribute holds and verify books on the hold shelf; c) create, renew, and edit user records.
  • Use cash register to collect fees and overdue fines.
  • Prepare books at the circulation desk for reshelving.
  • Shelve reference books, periodicals, and regular stack books. File microforms.
  • Answer the phone; provide limited information regarding library materials while directing more extensive reference questions to the reference librarian.
  • Assist in searching for missing books.
  • Dust shelves and perform other light cleaning tasks.
  • Help patrons use the library's scanner.
  • Help the supervisor prepare the reserve shelf.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with the library's classification system for shelving books.
  • Ability to focus on details while also handling numerous interruptions at the front desk.
  • Ability to work some Saturdays, evenings, and during the summers.
  • Availability to work 10-20 hours per week.

Preferred Skills/Abilities

  • Capacity to commit to the position for two years.
  • Previous library experience is beneficial but not necessary.
