JOB TYPE: Full-time, nonexempt
SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week; exact times vary; MH open hours are Mon-Fri 10am-7pm and Sat 1-5pm
COMPENSATION: Minimum $13.75/hour

ABOUT MARING-HUNT LIBRARY (MH)
Maring-Hunt Library is located between South View Elementary School and the Wilson Apartments on the south side of Muncie. MH offers a circulating collection of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and more. Maring-Hunt Library also provides free public access computer use, free Wi-Fi, low-cost printing and copying, free programs on a variety of subjects, story times for children, programming for teens, book clubs for adults, and community meeting space. Ready Readers early literacy program and Great Achievers after school program are located in Maring-Hunt Library. Free Notary service is available by appointment. Maring-Hunt Library also has an expansive green space that provides pavilions for gatherings, community garden space, a health track, and a StoryWalk book trail.
POSITION PURPOSE
To fulfill routine and higher circulation functions and provide essential customer service. Also to assist with the training of Circulation Assistant I (CAI)s.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform these functions satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Assist customers and other Circulation Assistants with all aspects of the circulation process and provide guidance on circulation policies/procedures including but not limited to: (1) Registering customers for Library cards, check materials in/out, process fines/fees, etc. (2) Effectively handling customer needs and questions either in person or over the phone
  • Perform daily higher circulation functions including but not limited to: (1) Completing the morning deposit, making change for department money drawers, using basic math skills to calculate and troubleshoot money errors, etc. (2) Running database reports, maintaining accurate written/digital records for all transactions, etc. (3) Handling and processing damaged materials
  • Accurately and efficiently handle/process all money received, ensuring security and compliance with MPL policies/procedures
  • Shelve and pull items accurately with combinations of letters and numbers (including decimals)
  • Help customers use library equipment (i.e. self-checkout machines, etc.)

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:
  • Maintain a valid Indiana Driver's License and personal automobile insurance
