Job Description:
Position Summary
The Palliative Medicine Service chaplain provides expertise in assessing and addressing the spiritual and existential needs of patients, families and staff. S/he provides comprehensive spiritual screening, assessment and interventions, including pastoral counseling, and inter-disciplinary consultation, education, and support. S/he is also responsible for the provision of supportive services and education for staff. A fully-integrated member of the interdisciplinary Palliative Medicine and Chaplain Services, s/he contributes to team goal setting and the overall metrics of these services. As a member of Chaplain Services s/he will also see patients that are not Palliative and assist with on-call coverage. S/he models and collaborates with all members of the clinical team to respectfully provide cultural, emotional, spiritual and religious care to address patient and family-centered concerns. S/he supports shared program development and quality improvement initiatives across services and departments. This position reports to the Chaplain Supervisor under the direction of the Nursing Support Services director.
Experience
Demonstrated experience in pastoral and spiritual counseling with current recognition and good standing in spiritual community. CPE experience is required. Ability to work as an integral member of an interdisciplinary team. Experience working in a healthcare chaplaincy setting preferred - palliative desired. Spanish speaking preferred.
Education
Masters of Divinity or like degree. Clinical Pastoral Education is required.
Licensure/Certifications
Ordained and/or actively licensed for ministry is required. Chaplaincy board certification or eligibility preferred.
