Claims Specialist, Transactional Liability

Description
At CFC, we're offering an exciting opportunity to join our growing US Claims team as a Claims Specialist, focused on Transaction Liability claims across North America. This role is ideal for someone with a background in D&O claims who's keen to build deeper expertise in transactional liability.
You'll work closely with the US Transaction Liability (TL) Claims Manager and collaborate with colleagues across London, Toronto, and Australia.
In this role, you'll handle complex Transaction Liability claims from first notification through to resolution. You'll apply strong technical judgement and commercial awareness to deliver fair, timely outcomes-supporting CFC's reputation with insureds, brokers, and counterparties in the M&A market.
About the role
  • Handling a portfolio of Transaction Liability claims (including complex, high-value matters) from first notification through to settlement
  • Analyse policy coverage, transaction documentation, and claim submissions to assess liability and quantum
  • Instruct and collaborate with external advisers (including legal counsel, accountants, and other experts) as required
  • Engage directly with insureds, brokers, and their advisers, maintaining clear, professional, and commercially balanced communication
  • Identify coverage issues, disputes, and potential fraud indicators, escalating appropriately
  • Ensure claims handling complies with internal controls, delegated authority levels, and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to internal reporting, reserving discussions, and claims insights to support underwriting and portfolio management
  • Support continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and market trends with underwriting and claims colleagues

About you
Essential experience
  • Experience handling insurance claims (Transaction Liability, W&I, or related specialty lines) is desirable, but not essential
  • Interest in learning about M&A transactions and deal documentation, or experience working closely with these materials in a claims, legal, or advisory context
  • Experience handling complex, multi-party claims and managing external advisers

Regulatory & compliance knowledge
  • Working knowledge of US insurance claims handling requirements, including fair claims practices
  • Experience operating within defined claims authorities, governance frameworks, and audit expectations

Technical knowledge
  • Strong policy interpretation and coverage analysis skills
  • Ability to assess financial loss and causation, including reviewing transaction documentation and financial information
  • Confidence using claims management systems, producing clear written analyses, and making recommendations

Base salary: $150,000-$200,000 (dependent on experience).
