REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCESThe Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Library Specialist, Supervisor. Additional vacancies may be filled from this recruitment for a different location within the library system. This position may be assigned to any location within the Libraries Division based on operational needs.

The purpose of this position is the supervision of a large unit and project coordination; supervision and training; resolving day to day operational issues of a large unit; serve as a Supervisor-in-Charge of the building on a regular basis; developing and implementing programs and services, including division wide initiatives. This position is assigned a variety of responsibilities that serve a regional or system-wide function; including circulation at a regional or flagship library location; head of programming for a cluster or flagship library location; and Community Engagement. This position requires the individual to model the highest level of excellent customer service and professionalism to internal and external customers of the Division.
In a Circulation section, the purpose of this position is to organize, direct, coordinate and prioritize the workflow of the Circulation Section of a regional or flagship library location; participate in the supervisory team of the assigned unit; ensure that Broward County policies and procedures are followed, including cash handling; resolve day-to-day operational issues; and develop and implement programs and services, including division-wide initiatives. In addition, this supervisor serves as a resource to multiple libraries in the assigned cluster, provides training to staff throughout the system, may assign staff to other locations as needed, resolves escalated customer account concerns from other libraries in the assigned cluster, and on occasion assists at other regional libraries. This supervisor participates on system-wide committees and is responsible for collaborating with colleagues to ensure circulation procedures are current and meet the needs of the Division and customers.
The library serves as an integral part of the community, offering classes in computer technology and educational, recreational, and cultural programs on a regular basis. In a programming section or the Community Engagement section, this position may provide supervision for the programming unit, coordinate projects, train, and resolve day to day operational issues of the unit; develop and implement programs and services, contribute to the development and implementation of grant proposals to seek funding for library programs; oversee installations of displays in exhibit/gallery spaces; be responsible for scheduling meeting room reservations and ensuring that Division procedures for usage and fee policies are properly administered; coordinate events that require AV support in either a fully equipped auditorium or theater space; working with partner organizations, authors, and artistic entities to deliver high quality programs; and serve as a resource for cluster branches.
This position will also perform related work as assigned and may be assigned to work at any library location based on operational needs.
Minimum Education and Experience RequirementsRequires an Associate's degree or two (2) years of higher level education from an accredited college or university.
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)Requires four (4) years of library operations and processes experience or experience relevant to area of assignment; including two (2) years of lead work/supervisory experience.

Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.Oversees lending library materials to customers through coordination of shelving, holds, returns and maintenance of customer circulation reports for branch and cluster, and customer records; supervises cash handling procedures and related reports, and ensures staff complies with Libraries Division' s cash handling procedures.
Works at the public service desks providing service to library customers with basic information, location of library materials and assistance in the use of computer and other library equipment; assists with returning and lending materials, issues new library cards, gives library services orientation and handles Point of Sale transactions; provides service to customers with account problems and provides resolutions.
Ensures County policies and Library procedures are adhered to and administered fairly, and explains policies and procedures to staff and customers as needed.
Selects, trains, supervises, counsels, and evaluates staff and maintains performance logs. Completes staff performance appraisals, addresses performance concerns and sets goals to enable employees to meet expectations.
In collaboration with manager and other section supervisors, serves as a member of the management team of the library.
Develops processes and procedures through participating in system-wide committees; tests new technologies and services and makes recommendations before system-wide implementation; assists in the development of training manuals.
Serves as system-wide resource person for Circulation and Programming Services; explains updated policies and procedures and trains staff for implementation.
Contributes to a safe environment by addressing customer code of conduct violations and escalating matters to the Supervisor in Charge (SIC) and/or contacting appropriate authorities as needed. This position regularly serves as SIC.
Initiates and prepares programs for upcoming months using library themes as guidelines; researches and hires speakers, presenters/performers, vendors, non-profits and authors; books photographers, sound and lighting technicians. Develops, coordinates, plans and implements large-scale special events and coordinates programming for key initiatives and new programs throughout the library system, as assigned; works with artists in preparing exhibits; fills out required paperwork and prepares signage for exhibits; ensures the exhibits are properly displayed.
Prepares correspondence, notifications, forms and related documents in order to communicate information to staff and the public, responsible for the collection of usage statistics and submission of various reports, as required.
Prepares press releases and information to promote programs via email, flyers, and through social media; submits information to e-calendars; works with marketing to design and then proof posters, brochures, flyers, web design, signage, programs/schedule.
