Job description

Overview
The Branch Manager at URI is directly responsible for developing and managing the business operations in a manner to increase sales, profitability, market share, as well as customer and employee satisfaction.
Responsibilities
The scope of the responsibilities includes, but is not limited to, the following: sales, inventory, administration (including reports, banking, human resource management), as well as building, vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • To perform all branch sales management functions including: counter sales, outside sales calls, phone calls, quote requests.
  • Responsible directly for 30 - 50 accounts including their sales and gross margin attainment. Accounts will be reviewed annually with the Regional Manager.
  • Responsible to direct and coordinate the marketing, promotion and stock levels for all of the products sold by our company. These marketing efforts will include, but are not limited to, the following: counter days, telemarketing, sales calls, local flyers, promotions, displays, showroom design, marketing and forecasts, etc.
  • To plan and implement consistent promotional events, counter days, training, tech talks, tool days, etc.
  • To maintain and develop a local mailing list of all existing and potential customers. This list should include mailing address, email address, as well as technicians' cellular numbers (with consent).
  • To develop and maintain special pricing discounts for key accounts with the approval and review of the Regional Manager.
  • Communicate regularly with branch employees in regards to company approved promotions as well as corporate updates and general communications.
  • Develop/ review/ revise financial and budget information and annual branch business plans.
  • Attend regular association meetings; keep up-to-date on industry trends, product changes, etc.
  • Conduct or attend management meetings as required.
  • To ensure daily that all areas of work are properly staffed and directed. To handle the daily supervision of all branch personnel and related administration functions for such personnel.
  • To provide training, coaching, mentoring, and motivation to bring out the best in each branch employee. To provide orientation for each new employee.
  • To provide annual reviews as well as consistent feedback and evaluation of branch employees.
  • To select, promote, discipline or recommend the discharge of employees within your branch in accordance with the company's personnel policy.
  • To work closely with the area Regional Manager and effectively communicate any sales or operational opportunities or concerns.
  • To work closely with the Purchasing Department as well as Inventory Control as it relates to new products, obsolescence, or exceptions.
  • To work closely with the Credit Department in relation to credit limits, large job approvals, credit holds, new accounts, etc. To process all customer credits in a timely and accurate manner.
  • To review and maintain accurate records including proper and timely filing or all required order forms, purchase orders, transfers, waybills, time sheets, or other data.
  • To ensure that all company policies are observed.
  • To perform security and safety audits on a regular basis. Complete and maintain necessary paperwork for documentation and due diligence purposes.
  • To ensure that all inside and outside facilities and grounds are maintained and meet all legal compliance standards.
  • To problem solve and handle all customer service and operational concerns promptly.
  • To respond daily to branch exceptions shown on daily reports. To perform cycle counts, to validate accuracy and stay up-to-date on Inventory Control measures.
  • Personally manage the cash box and all of the requirements of bank deposits, floats, record keeping and reporting requirements.
  • To perform and complete special projects as assigned by the Regional Manager.
  • To provide consistent and fair leadership and guidance to each branch employee.

Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Bachelors Degree, College Diploma in related field or related experience.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of the HVAC/R industry with a minimum of 5 years experience.
  • Experience in warehouse management, planning, staffing, budgeting and effective organizational skills.
  • Must possess a good understanding of business practices and good business judgment.
  • Must possess the ability to work independently and be self-directed with little or no day-to-day supervision.
  • Must have the ability to work long hours as required.
  • Must be able to travel to meet customers or attend required meetings on a regular basis.
  • Must have the ability to achieve established goals and profitability levels on a consistent basis.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Must have the ability to deal with difficult customers; must possess diplomacy.
  • Must have the ability to motivate and direct work at all levels of branch employees.
  • Must possess strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Must possess above average sales and marketing skills, detail oriented.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of our Trend software, and other related technologies.
  • Must possess a broad knowledge of accounting principles including budgeting, credit and financial analysis and basic business practices.
  • Must have an appropriate sense of urgency; prioritize.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
  • This position requires pushing, lifting, carrying, moving and pulling up to 75 pounds for up to 15% of the work day; heavier loads will require assistance.
  • This position requires standing for extended portions of the day as well as consistent mobility.
  • This position requires the ability to mount and dismount a forklift as well as the use of arms and legs to operate the forklift.
  • This position requires physical dexterity of the hands and fingers to handle and supply parts.
  • This position requires the individual to drive for work related purposes on a regular basis.
  • This position does require the ability to review small print items on a regular basis.

  • The workplace is that of a fast paced, deadline oriented warehouse, office, and showroom environment. There are minimal noise levels.
  • This position requires working independently as well as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • This position requires the frequent use of a computer or terminal.
  • The individual may be subject to inclement weather conditions (abnormally hot or cold) on a regular basis.
  • The position requires the individual to operate machinery, equipment and vehicles on a regular basis.
  • The individual may be subject to odors, dust or dirt due to the nature of the supply industry.
