The Team
Biology at MaverickX is where molecular design becomes an industrial impact. Our team engineers microbes, designs novel proteins, and builds genetic systems that power everything from critical mineral extraction to next-generation chemical production. We work across protein engineering, synthetic biology, and high-throughput screening to create biological tools that operate in extreme environments and at field scale. Then we do the hard part: producing at industrial scale in our 40,000L reactors. If you want to design molecules that reshape energy and mining, this is where it happens.
The Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Automation Technician to join our growing R&D team. In this role, you will support and operate automated liquid handling systems and high-throughput screening workflows that are central to our discovery and development pipeline. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about the intersection of biology and automation.
Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot liquid handling robots (e.g., Opentrons) for routine and custom assay workflows
  • Execute high-throughput screening experiments include compound plating, reagent preparation, and plate-based assay readouts
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance and calibration on automated instrumentation and coordinate with vendors for more complex service needs
  • Follow and contribute to the development of SOPs, protocols, and logs to ensure reproducibility and compliance
    Assist in data collection, entry, and basic analysis using spreadsheets

Qualifications
  • Bachelors in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory setting using automated liquid handling systems such as Opentrons, Beckman Coulter Biomek, Eppendorf epMotion etc.
  • Experience in protein purification techniques and experience with relevant laboratory equipment.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
