Job description

Position Title: Biology Lab Assistant
Department: Science Labs, College of Arts and Sciences
Supervisor: Malia Dunbar, mdunbar1@maryville.edu
About the Position:
As a part of the Federal Work-Study Program at Maryville University, the Biology Lab Assistant position offers enrolled students an opportunity to gain valuable work experience while supporting the Science Labs. This role is designed to enhance students' career readiness skills in preparation for their transition into the workforce.
Responsibilities:
  • Complete general lab upkeep and maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety in the laboratories.
  • Support ongoing labs and instructors.
  • Receive packages and inventory materials accordingly.
  • Complete lab prep assignments from Biology Lab Coordinators.
  • Regularly check in with supervisors for additional tasks.
  • Participate in ongoing training and regular meetings with student managers.
  • Train for class coordinator role.

Qualifications:
  • Highly organized, detailed-oriented, and proactive.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain meticulous records.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and part of a team.

Requirements:
  • Must be a current full-time undergraduate student at Maryville University.
  • Must be Federal Work-Study eligible (a US citizen that has filled out the FAFSA) and available to work during the academic year (August 25, 2025-May 1, 2026.)
  • A science faculty recommendation for lab work is preferred unless applying as a freshman. If applicable, please submit a recommendation letter with your application.
  • Must commit to at least 10 hours per week.

Compensation:
  • Hourly pay rate: $15.00.

Performance Evaluation:
  • Regular feedback will be provided, with a formal performance evaluation conducted in March.
