POSITION SUMMARY:

The Tribal Behavioral Health Manager oversees the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of behavioral health services for the Tribal community. This position provides leadership and supervision to behavioral health staff and ensures the delivery of culturally appropriate mental health, substance use, prevention, and wellness services.

The Behavioral Health Manager collaborates with Tribal leadership, health providers, social services, schools, and community partners to promote holistic wellness and address behavioral health needs. The role emphasizes culturally grounded practices that incorporate traditional healing, trauma-informed care, and community engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, implement, and oversee behavioral health programs, including mental health, substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery services.
  • Develop program goals, objectives, and performance measures aligned with Tribal priorities and community needs.
  • Ensure programs comply with Tribal, Federal, and State regulations, policies, and funding requirements.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and recommend improvements based on data and community feedback.
  • Coordinate crisis response and behavioral health interventions when necessary.
  • Supervise behavioral health staff, including clinicians, counselors, prevention specialists, and support personnel.
  • Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations for program staff.
  • Foster a supportive, collaborative, and culturally respectful work environment.
  • Work closely with Tribal leadership and community members to identify behavioral health priorities.
  • Collaborate with Tribal departments, including social services, education, housing, and law enforcement.
  • Build partnerships with external providers, regional health systems, and community organizations.
  • Promote behavioral health awareness and prevention through community outreach and education.
  • Ensure behavioral health services incorporate culturally appropriate approaches and traditional healing practices when appropriate.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen cultural identity, community resilience, and intergenerational healing.
  • Respect Tribal sovereignty, traditions, and values in program development and service delivery.
  • Manage program budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with grant reporting requirements and funding guidelines.
  • Prepare program reports for Tribal leadership, funding agencies, and regulatory entities.
  • Maintain program records and documentation in accordance with confidentiality and privacy regulations (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2).
  • Collect and analyze behavioral health program data to track outcomes and service utilization.
  • Prepare periodic reports on program activities, outcomes, and community impact.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of behavioral health systems, mental health services, and substance use treatment models.
  • Understanding of historical trauma and its impact on Tribal communities.
  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of behavioral health staff.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to develop and manage programs and budgets.

  • Bachelor's degree inpsychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Health, Public Health, or a related fieldrequired.
  • Master's degree in social work (preferred), Counseling, Psychology, Public Health, or Behavioral Health
  • Experience managing Tribal, federal, or grant-funded behavioral health programs preferred.
  • Minimum5 years of experience in behavioral health, mental health services, or substance use treatment.
  • Minimum2 years of supervisory or program management experience preferred.
  • Experience working withTribal communities or culturally diverse populations is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing Tribal, federal, or grant-funded behavioral health programs.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and culturally responsive behavioral health practices.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, transportation, and insurance is required.
  • Must pass a background security check prior to employment.
