Backstage Developer

Location: Onsite in Las Vegas, NV

Long-term open-ended contract

  • MUST HAVE: Backstage Implementation experience, Cloud and Kubernetes; Node.JS, React.JS or Typescript.  Must provide GitHub and Linkedin account

We are seeking a Backstage Developer to design, implement, and maintain Backstage Developer Portals in a multi-cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure). You will play a key role in streamlining internal developer workflows, enhancing platform engineering initiatives, and integrating best practices in Kubernetes (EKS, GKE, AKS) and cloud-native technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Implement Backstage: Deploy, configure, and extend Backstage.io to create a seamless developer portal experience.
  • Plugin Development: Build and maintain custom plugins using TypeScript and Node.js to integrate Backstage with internal and external tools.
  • Multi-Cloud Integration: Ensure Backstage is well-integrated across AWS, GCP, and Azure, leveraging Terraform, Kubernetes, and cloud networking best practices.
  • Authentication & Authorization: Implement SSO (OIDC, OAuth, SAML) and role-based access control (RBAC) for secure access.
  • CI/CD & Automation: Work with GitHub Actions, Terraform, Helm, and other DevOps tools to automate Backstage deployments.
  • Service Catalog & API Management: Maintain a robust Software Catalog with integrations into GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, ArgoCD, and Kubernetes.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of the Backstage platform.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with platform engineers, SREs, and developers to improve the developer experience and onboarding.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong Backstage Expertise: Experience implementing and extending Backstage.io in a production environment.
  • TypeScript & Node.js: Advanced skills in developing Backstage plugins and services.
  • Cloud & Kubernetes: Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, and managing Kubernetes workloads (EKS, GKE, AKS).
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Expertise in Terraform and Helm for managing infrastructure.
  • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience with GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Jenkins, or similar tools.
  • API Integrations: Ability to work with GraphQL, REST APIs, OpenAPI, and service discovery mechanisms.
  • Authentication & Security: Knowledge of OIDC, OAuth2, SAML, and security best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to Backstage open-source projects.
  • Familiarity with Istio, Karpenter, and Backstage software templates.
  • Previous experience in platform engineering or developer experiences roles.
