Job description

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join a well-established Quebec-based company specializing in the design and manufacturing of automated systems and custom-engineered solutions. In a context of strong growth, this individual will play a strategic role within the organization and will be responsible for advancing the engineering function across people, processes, performance, and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reporting to senior management, the Director of Engineering will be responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and development of the engineering department.
  • This individual will also serve as a key technical reference for complex projects and major research and development initiatives.
  • Lead, develop, and drive the performance of the engineering teams;
  • Oversee the three engineering disciplines: mechanical, automation, and software development;
  • Structure and optimize engineering processes for both customer projects and R&D initiatives;
  • Implement standardized methods and best practices across the various engineering disciplines;
  • Establish and maintain a performance-driven culture supported by key performance indicators (KPIs);
  • Manage the department’s budget and ensure optimal allocation of resources;
  • Assess engineering staffing requirements in collaboration with the PMO / Project Management Office;
  • Coach and support team members with respect to performance, professional development, work environment, and evaluations;
  • Identify cross-functional challenges and implement solutions to improve organizational effectiveness;
  • Strengthen communication and collaboration between Sales, Project Management, and Engineering;
  • Act as a technical advisor and subject-matter expert to support the Sales team during the proposal and quotation process;
  • Ensure product quality with a focus on reliability, performance, and overall value;
  • Participate in technical approval gates and define clear scopes for R&D and product development initiatives;
  • Identify and prioritize product improvements that provide meaningful value to the organization and its customers;
  • Participate in patent management and review technical content to ensure optimal protection of the company’s intellectual property;
  • Monitor market developments, emerging technologies, and industry trends to identify new product and innovation opportunities;
  • Actively contribute to the company’s technology strategy and long-term growth.
