Holland Public Schools is located in Holland, Michigan. The district has four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school and has an enrollment of approximately 3000 students. We offer a dual language immersion program in Spanish in grades K-8. Holland Public Schools has a diverse student population with approximately 47% Latinx, 9% Black, 6% Multiracial, 3 % Asian and 35% White and approximately 64% free and reduced lunch.

JOB TITLE: Elementary Dean of Students
SALARY LEVEL: Based upon experience and qualifications
EMPLOYMENT TERM: School Year + 3 weeks (195 days)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
CLASSIFICATION: Professional Support

PRIMARY JOB GOAL: The Dean of Students reports directly to the building Principal. The position is responsible for assisting the building Administrator in fulfilling assigned duties related to the daily supervision and management of school operation and functions. This includes academic, instructional, assessment, social-emotional, and behavioral supports. This position has been designed for a candidate who is interested in building level administration and serves as a pathway for career exploration.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Assists with managing the building, especially in the absence of the building administrator(s).
  2. Implements and supports the Positive Behavioral Intervention System of Supports.
  3. Assists building Principal in providing ongoing assessment of student needs, class schedules and classroom needs.
  4. Assists with or coordinates district and state assessments.
  5. In conjunction with building Principal, works to implement effective techniques and strategies to prevent and respond to disruptive student behavior in collaboration with the Offices of Pupil Services and School Improvement.
  6. Develops positive home-school relations and encourages parent involvement within the school.
  7. Supervises and evaluates building support staff and evaluates non-certified staff as assigned by the building Principal.
  8. Participates in School Improvement Efforts and PBIS teams.
  9. Assists in monitoring the implementation of District curriculum, instructional pedagogy, and overall student achievement outcomes.
  10. Interacts with co-workers, administration, students and parents in cooperative, supportive and positive ways.
  11. Participates in Individual Educational Plan, 504, and Child Study Team meetings as a Building/District representative, as needed.
  12. Assists in the successful implementation of CPI strategies and Restorative Practices.
  13. Participates in disciplinary investigations and representation at district level hearings as assigned.
  14. Attends professional staff development as designated and/or with the facilitation/development of PSD.
  15. Maintains regular, consistent, and timely attendance.
  16. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Principal or other administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree of education or educational administration preferred, but not required.
  2. Ability to work well with students, staff and parents.
  3. Experience working in ethnically diverse communities and/or with at-risk youth preferred.
  4. Ability to demonstrate mature judgment and moral and ethical behavior.
  5. Ability to project a positive outlook, manner and appearance.
  6. Ability to create and maintain all records required in a timely and completely accurate manner.
  7. Demonstrates the physical, mental, emotional and psychological capacity for the demands of the assignment.
