Associate Accounting Analyst Jobs (NOW HIRING)

Consider joining the Accounting team as we support the programs carrying out the mission of the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Under direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Associate Accounting Analyst is responsible for independently handling complex, multi-year, and difficult assignments in support of Federal Unit management. The primary responsibility is the completion of state and federal financial statements and reports.
The position is headquartered in the Natural Resources Building located in downtown Sacramento. The office is right next to Light Rail for an easy commute and features ergonomic furniture, panoramic downtown views, a free employee gym, a cafeteria and bodega, and adjacent childcare.
Personal Leave Program: Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary salary reductions ranging from 2% to 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) hours. This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs.

Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer keyboard several hours a day. Standard office environment that involves sitting most of the time but involves walking or standing for brief periods. Work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. Time off may not be granted during the year-end Financial Statement period and Federal grant closing periods. Required to attend offsite meetings using private or public transportation, or other means of transportation such as walking between locations.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Knowledge and Experience with the FI$Cal system and configurations.
• Strong time management skills to complete tasks and meet deadlines regularly.
• Experience assisting in training peers and serve as a lead over a program.
• Knowledge or skills with preparation of Year End Financial Reports.
• Knowledge of or familiarit y with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• General Ledger and Federal Fund experience.
• Strong federal or month end close reconciliation skills.
• Familiarity or knowledge of analyzing large data sets.
• Strong Personal Computer (PC) knowledge, including experience with Word, Excel, and accounting databases.
• Familiarity developing written desk procedures including analysis of State policies and procedures, such as SAM, Government Code, Management Memos, and FI$Cal requirements.
