Assistant Project Manager (Mechanical) โ€“ Data Centers

Highland Consulting Group is an executive construction recruiting firm specializing in placing top construction talent nationwide.

Weโ€™re partnering with a regional mechanical contractor in Lima, OH that delivers large data center projects and is hiring an experienced Assistant Project Manager. If you enjoy commercial mechanical workโ€”piping, plumbing, and HVACโ€”this is an opportunity to grow into full Project Management with mentorship from a highly skilled team. Our client invests in modern tools and technology and offers the resources and stability of a growing organization.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of experience as a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager supporting commercial or industrial mechanical projects (data center experience is a plus).

Paid Relocation or daily per diem

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Management team in planning, executing, and closing out assigned projects
  • Own and track the submittal process from creation through approval
  • Prepare and respond to RFIs as needed, coordinating with internal teams and external partners
  • Assist with change order pricing, negotiation support, and maintenance of change order logs
  • Partner with the Project Manager to track budget performance, forecast costs, and review/approve project expenses
  • Serve as a point of contact with the Owner and stakeholders on assigned projects
  • Maintain complete project documentation, including closeout and turnover materials
  • Develop, update, and communicate project schedules
  • Coordinate punch list inspections with the Superintendent and Ownerโ€™s Representative and issue punch lists to subcontractors
  • Estimate and support pricing for change orders and scope revisions
  • Support contract administration activities, including documentation and compliance tracking
  • Assist with subcontract and equipment buyout activities

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build and manage project timelines and budgets
  • Experience with cost estimating and negotiation
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfort leading productive, cross-functional meetings
  • Demonstrated project performance with a consistent work history and strong references
  • Experience: 5+ years as a Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager on large-scale mechanical projects preferred
