Hours: Part-Time

Schedule: Monday - Friday | 9:00AM - 2:00PM


Job Summary:  We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Assistant Cook who enjoys working as part of a team and takes pride in preparing and serving meals in a clean, safe, and caring environment. This role supports the EHS Cook in preparing nutritious meals and snacks, maintaining kitchen facilities, and ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing, and CACFP requirements. The EHS Assistant Cook will also assist with transporting meals between sites and supporting occasional classroom or event needs.


What we're looking for:  We are looking for a dependable, positive team member to join our kitchen and help prepare meals for our youngest learners. As an Assistant Cook, you'll spend your days:

Preparing and serving meals/snacks that meet developmental, medical, and allergy needs of infants and toddlers.

Ensuring food is appealing, nutritious, and meets CACFP/state/federal guidelines.

Using family-style serving techniques and enhancing classroom activities with special food items when needed.

Maintaining accurate dietary/allergy records and completing documentation and temperature logs.

Inspecting kitchen and food storage for safety and compliance.

Transporting meals between Hartford City and Marion sites.

Supporting occasional classroom needs, special events, and parent group meetings.

Encouraging and respecting the cultural backgrounds of all families and staff.

Requirements

Education and Experience: Must be 21 years or older; must possess a valid driver's license, adequate automobile insurance, and meet agency insurability requirements; must be willing to pursue additional education, as required by State and Federal standards and regulations.

Knowledge and Skills: Must have Serve Safe Certification or being willing to obtain; must be willing to pursue additional education as required by ongoing program needs; must be highly organized, detail oriented, and able to communicate both verbally and in writing; must be able to cook, bake, and follow written and verbal directions in order to produce healthy and appetizing meals. Computer use and experience is desirable; must possess the following qualities: adaptability and flexibility, teamwork, communication (written and oral), initiative, planning and organization, problem Solving.

Physical Requirements: Ability to walk, bend, stoop or stand for extended periods; must be able to pick-up, hold, and move 40+ lbs. Must have the sensory capacities to successfully execute essential job functions.; must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as but not limited to: gloves, masks, gowns, face shields, shoes, ear plugs, etc. 

Safety and Compliance: Must be able to follow all required safe and universal precaution practices during a pandemic and as required otherwise; as required by specific job requirements must know first aid, health & safety measures or build an acceptable competence level by post-hire training.
