Job description

It is the mission of Life's Journey Hospice to provide compassionate, quality comfort care thatenhances the lives of people with life-limiting illness and their families. Life's Journey Hospice is committed to quality patient care, caregiver support and education. Our care allows terminally ill patients and their families to experience the end of life together, in the comfort and security of their home or wherever they call home.


We are looking for a Part Time Cook to join our team! Under supervision of the Dietary Manager, the Hospice Inpatient Cook will provide high quality meals and nutritional services to our Hospice House patients and guests. This position will be expected to maintain the work area in a clean and healthy state according to sanitation regulations and in accordance with the company standards and current policies and procedures.


Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Prepares assigned menu items by using standardized recipes to assure quality of food and timeliness of service.
  • Accepts food preparation assignments and obtains patient meal selections.
  • Makes items available for start of service.
  • Observes principles of food safety and maintains a sanitary work environment.
  • Accepts other assignments to assure continuity of service.
  • Practices a team approach.
  • Accountable for the quality of assigned food items.
  • Responds to operational challenges.
  • Demonstrates competence in all food preparation equipment use.
  • Understands portion control and effectively utilizes production guides.
  • Consults with supervisor about variances.
  • Complies with regulatory standards and department policies.
  • Checks availability of supplies.
  • Assists with on-the-job training for new employees as needed.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned by Administrator/Dietary Manager.
  • SHIFT: Saturday and Sunday (7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)


Qualified applicants will possess the following:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED).
  • Complete Hospice Orientation and Hospice 101.
  • Ability to work independently, be organized and detail oriented. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of hospice policies and procedures. Acceptance of and adaptability to different social, racial, cultural and religious modes.
  • One or more years of food service experience or related experience preferred. One or more years of general customer service experience is preferred.
