Job description

Our newest location in Greenvale, NY is looking for a talented and experienced Full-Time Catering Chef to lead and elevate the catering operations of our specialty market. This dynamic role is perfect for a culinary professional who takes pride in crafting high-quality, beautifully presented catering orders with precision and efficiency. The ideal candidate is detail-driven, thrives under pressure, and collaborates seamlessly with both the culinary and catering teams to deliver exceptional experiences and exceed customer expectations-all while upholding the highest standards of food safety, consistency, and presentation. Positions are immediate openings with training located at one of our nearby gourmet stores!

Responsibilities

  • Execute catering menus in strict alignment with established recipes and portion guidelines.
  • Develop and manage production plans for day-of and next-day catering orders, ensuring readiness and accuracy.
  • Operate and navigate the FoodStorm catering platform to view, manage, and prioritize catering orders efficiently.
  • Coordinate with the Catering Manager to ensure all orders are fulfilled accurately and delivered on time.
  • Set prep lists for team members to efficiently prepare items needed for current and upcoming orders.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation in accordance with health department regulations.
  • Ensure proper plating and packaging of catering items for visual appeal and consistency.
  • Work with other kitchen departments to source needed components from various programs (e.g., bakery, deli, hot bar).
  • Communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking staff to ensure a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Adapt and perform under pressure, especially during peak periods or high-volume order days.
  • Assist in other kitchen functions as needed, including inventory, prep, and cross-training opportunities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace at all times.
  • Demonstrate strong time management and multitasking skills in a dynamic kitchen environment.
  • Be available to work all major holidays and support seasonal catering needs.
  • Other duties and functions as assigned

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of culinary experience in a catering or food production setting
  • Experience with catering systems, especially FoodStorm, is highly desirable
  • Excellent understanding of recipe compliance, food presentation, and portion control
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English is preferred
  • ServSafe or other food safety certification preferred
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

Working Conditions

  • Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping.
  • May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance.
  • Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers.
  • There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents.
