Job Description

The role of the Associate Designer within the Outdoor Performance platform team is crucial for enhancing product innovation and ensuring high-quality product standards. As an Associate Designer, you play a vital role in contributing to the product creation of innovative, functional apparel products that align with Simms Fishing Products requirements for performance, quality, and aesthetics. Your responsibilities include working closely with internal teams such as the design, materials, product development and merchandising team to transform ideas into tangible products and support the team in the product development process. Collaboration is critical as you navigate and support the journey from concept creation to final production, ensuring that the development process runs smoothly and efficiently.

This position reports to the Design Manager and is based out of our Bozeman office.

As Associate Designer, you will have an opportunity to:

Collaborate with the design team to develop color palette along with print, yarn dyes and graphic applications on a seasonal basis.

Manage pantone documents and trim color documents throughout each seasonal development

Maintain organized filing system keeping the design team on track and organized for each product development cycle

Manage design boards by season with seasonal sketches and ensure all sketches are update to date

Produce, maintain and update creative presentations - Visual line plans, support in sales meeting presentation creation, design review presentation creation and set up

Research and identify trends (color, trims, patterns/prints) and distill how to apply that information to seasonal product designs to appeal to target consumers.

Assist in creating and manipulating prints, patterns, and texture fills.

Responsible for maintaining VLPs (Visual Line Plan) and capturing changes throughout the entire development lifecycle - collaborating with sales and merchandising team to ensure all updates and revisions are accurate

Create and revise technical drawings in collaboration with design and product development to ensure tech packs are accurate and workable

Manage accessories (hats, gloves, gaiters) and logo apparel design and color placement while collaborating with the design manager and product development to ensure brand accuracy.

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design, or related field
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Ability to strategically apply color to product categories
  • Ability to create technical garment sketches for tech packs and design reviews
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction
  • Excellent conceptual skills with the ability to bring stories to life through design
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with product development, sales and merchandising teams
  • Comprehensive knowledge of silhouettes, fabrication, color/print usage, graphics, embellishments, and trims
  • Tremendous attention to detail, and extraordinary time-management skills; ability to adhere to tight timelines and work equally well as a self-starter and team player
  • Enthusiasm for apparel, high level of creativity, and a deep understanding of current and emerging trends
  • Flexibility to adapt to a fast paced, changing work environment and a willingness to learn/grow

Pay Range:

Annual Salary: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
