Job description

Department: Accounting

Reports To: Controller

Employment Type: Full-time

Work Location: Remote (U.S.-based). Must be able to travel to the Michigan head office as business needs require. Proximity to a major airport is preferred.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant with strong experience in ASC 606 revenue recognition and a blend of Big 4 and industry experience (SaaS preferred). This role will support revenue accounting, intercompany transactions, tax compliance coordination, and ERP system implementation initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can independently analyze issues, research accounting guidance, and drive solutions with minimal supervision.

Individual contributor and report to Controller.

Key ResponsibilitiesRevenue Recognition (ASC 606)
  • Review customer contracts and identify performance obligations in accordance with ASC 606
  • Evaluate complex revenue arrangements, including SaaS subscriptions, bundled services, and multi-element contracts
  • Maintain and update Standalone Selling Price (SSP) methodologies and supporting documentation
  • Ensure accurate revenue allocation and recognition across performance obligations
  • Monitor fulfillment of performance obligations to ensure timely revenue recognition
  • Partner with Sales, Legal, and Operations to assess revenue implications of contract terms
  • Own the monthly revenue close process, including reconciliations and audit support
  • Record and manage commission accruals and deferrals

Intercompany Accounting & Consolidation
  • Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, including cross-border activity
  • Support consolidation processes, including elimination, CTA entries
  • Ensure accuracy and alignment of intercompany balances and agreements
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly consolidated close and reporting

Tax Compliance Support (State-Level)
  • Assist with state tax compliance and nexus analysis
  • Coordinate with external tax advisors
  • Support data collection for tax filings and audits
  • Ensure consistency between accounting records and tax reporting

General Ledger & Projects
  • Manage capitalization of internally developed software
  • Support general ledger activities and special projects as needed
  • ERP System Implementation including the following activities:
  1. Support ERP implementation and enhancement initiatives
  2. Participate in revenue module design, testing, and validation
  3. Map revenue processes into system workflows
  4. Ensure accuracy of data migration and reporting outputs
Qualifications
  • 5-10 years of accounting experience, including Big 4 audit/advisory and industry experience
  • SaaS or subscription-based business experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition
  • Experience with Maxio or similar systems is highly preferred but not required
  • CPA preferred
  • Basic understanding of state tax concepts (nexus, compliance)
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar) is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
